I think they have a few mechanical issues -- TB will be able to advise -- but I like them -- might be my next ride. Be interested to hear what TB thinks of the oil burning lump :)

Ive had a few Rovers ( 420, a 618i and a 825sd ) I dont hold much for them, all cars developed the same problem ( Immobiliser ) in winter months, they did what they wanted. Ive heard that the 75's have a problem with the head gasket but others might now more. ;)

Had a 213 once -- more Honda than Rover though --- never had any gripes with it -- performed a lot better than the 216 my lot used to use as company transport

Make sure all the Rad / Aircon fans are working as they should on a 75.

75 relatively reliable in all forms, though the KV6 in its earlier forms (since modified in the 75) have the usual Rover HG issues every 30k.  The BMW'd diesels are OK, just ensure they've been serviced well.

Electrics are a huge improvement on the older 800/600 (its a mystery with the 600 suffered from duff electrics, as honda design and derived parts), all bits seem to generally stay working.

The MG V6 ones do go well, but some engine maintence (cambelts!) is a real nightmare.

Parts available, but some genuine parts can be expensive now.

Biggest issue, imho, is its image as an old mans car (then so is the Omega).

The Diesel is the BMW 2.0 Common Rail engine detuned from 150bhp it still lives on in the 3 series & 1 series

TB The MV6 looks a damn site better than the MG ZT!!!

We had a 1.8 Classic SE when it was about 3 yrs old.

Despite the old mans image I totally enjoyed driving it.

It was quiet, refined and just a very relaxing place to be.

Many BMW parts on it, which gives it a quality feel, and we had no problems at all with ours in 17000 miles.

Highly recommended to be honest........but I prefer our MV6 !!!

Whatever you do, under no circumstances should you buy a petrol Rover 75. Diesel yes, petrol no. You have been warned.

My next car has to be diesel, maybe auto and velour uphostery (the missus keeps complaining when she either sticks to the leather or it freezes her backside ( heated seats take to long to stop that initial shock!)

I hate to do this but I have to agree with your Mrs, and I find you can slide around on them.  :-X
