What next demands our care.......
« on: 07 June 2009, 17:07:34 »

…….now that we’ve ripped the pish out of Gordon and his merry band?  Who is capable of forming and leading a government that will restore confidence in the nation?

Are there both a fantasy government and cabinet capable of inspiring that confidence?

I’m not too sure about DC and his followers and am even less sure about the Clegg-ites, so this will require some thought.

I’m disappointed about the lack detail on DC’s stall as I’m naturally conservative – ( establishment – to serve them all my days, and all that) – but I can’t see much to inspire me on that front.

It merits serious consideration, as it’s very easy to call for Broons ejection, along with the rest of his tawdry lot, but less so to put a constructive and realistic alternative forward.  ;)

Zulu, yes the current political climate is rather glum, but the British Parliament has always risen from the depths of despair, throughout history, to rise above the challenge at hand.

1653 - 1789 - 1801 - 1834 - 1848 - 1909 - 1926 -1929 - 1930 -1940 - 1956 - 1979 - 2009........just to name a few occasions.

A new leader will emerge.  The British never give in and now is not the time to do so.  Democracy must remain strong, and through our mutual endevour we will win through all adversity. Us, the citizens must stick together, then we will be victorious.

......without doubt Ms Zoom but I'll have to do a bit of serious thinking as to who will lead this vanguard :-/ :-/  The trouble will only become apparent in the aftermath of any election ;) ;)

In no particular order I would like to see in the cabinet.

Michael Portillo
Norman Tebbit
Frank Field The only good labour person.
John Major
Ken Clarke

Along with one or two others whose names elude me at the moment, I think they could put the country back together again, allthough it will still be painfull whoever takes over, and I am sure we will all moan when the next lot take over, just try to remember where the blame really lies in the future.

Interesting question.

I, too, am naturally conservative as I believe in free enterprise and small government. I believe in a caring society, where we strive to provide the highest levels of education and healthcare - at no cost - to all, and where the less fortunate (such as the disabled) are amply protected.

That said, I abhor waste and that means making the public sector far more efficient than it is currently. For example, the amount that the NHS wastes on consultants is, to me, borderline criminal.

As a nation we need to ensure that the ability to govern ourselves is not surrendered. That means we must have the chance to vote on, and reject, the Lisbon Treaty. I am unconvinced that any mainstream party will allow this. I am worried that individuals within those parties see the EU as a later career move (à la Kinnock) and prefer to put their own prospects above those of the country.

We need to address the problem of immigration. This is not for any social reasons, but for sound economic ones. We simple do not have the infrastructure to allow the UK to allow millions more into the country without imposing excessive stresses on our schools, health services and housing stock.

We need to have a sensible energy policy which would aim to reduce fossil fuel consumption over the longer-term, but would retain (and indeed expand) the availability of base-load power, mainly through nuclear generation, but also using coal in the short to middle term. We need to ensure that science is apolitical (I guess you all know my views on the global warming scam by now).

So who would deliver all this?

Tories? I would like to say so but, as it stand, they would fail on the Lisbon Treaty and the Global Warming bit.

Labour? No chance of meeting any of the above in its current form.

LibDems? Their love affair with the EU would lead us to lose all our remaining sovereignty. Plus, among the mainstream, they are ultra greens.

Having read through the UKIP policy document, I have to say that they currently match closest to my aspirations.

I don't have a dream cabinet, but many nightmare ones. I would hope that, one day, Daniel Hannan (Tory MEP) makes his way to the top.   :y

I hadnt voted in over 20 years, but I have just voted for ukip, the loony left have taken over this country and all but destroyed it.
The Tories are useless, they made the mistake of choosing style over substance in cameron rather than Davis as a foil  to Blair, now that Blair is gone Cameron looks like the lightweight that he is.
So with that in mind I,like Nickbat considered the only option for me was to vote UKIP or abstain again, and as said I wanted to make my stand against the loons.

Despite the title of the thread, we are not obliged to care.
