TD Locking Kit
« on: 08 January 2009, 14:40:06 »

Has anyone got a TD locking kit I could borrow for a short time?

Friend has a 2.5 TD Landrover, same lump as Omega apparently, and thinks his HG has gone....
Strange failure, he has blown the top out of 3 radiators now, over 6 months.  He is reluctant to spend another £250 on another without looking for the real problem.

Not convinced on the HG idea, but he want to do the head to make sure.

I remember something being made from TB's door when he did the job, but has anyone got a kit available we could borrow?

Cheers

I have the locking kit, and the pdf. I am missing the tool to compress tensioner, and my gargae door will not be dismantled for it.

Any chance of bunging it in the post tomorrow?
If there is I'll check if its of use without the compressor.

Cheers

Huge thanks for supplying the Kit Uber fast, and for the technical advice  :y

The Head is off,
The gasket 'looks' ok, but does have some dulled areas?
Getting it skimmed before reassemby.

fingers crossed!  Trouble is it can go so long before issues, it will be a long time before success can be assumed  :-/

Why arent they skimmable?

Pots will be thoroughly checked.

Because the swirl pots etc are inserted into the head and as a result it thins the metal on them...it can also cause significant increases in compression.

Many modern heads cant be skimmed.

And anyway, you should not skim a head unless it need it so check its flat first!.
