Not a drug deal but I had the Police out to a situation yesterday in town, 2 young children in a parked car, no sign of an adult after 10 minutes. Dad turned up, a lucky chap, bet he does not do that again......... :)

Good call Mike.
I saw an unattended baby in a front garden the other day - right near the gate.

Watched for 10 mins, no sign of life.

Ended up knocking on the door and asking what they thought they were doing!

I'm sorry .. but I see nothing wrong with this at all, my children spent hours in the garden "unattended" as you put it ....  but a single sound and mums radar would have been there in a moment.

You would have been told, in very strong terms, to mind your own damned business if you approached me in that way - in uniform or not !!

There is far too much "nanny state" without individuals joining in IMHO.

Rant over ...   :)

Under normal circumstances I would agree with you Nige, but knowing the area and it's problems well, we weren't satisfied to walk away without at least checking the parents were nearby.

Reasons? The baby was left in the front yard of a house, on a pavement, directly on, and visible from, a street blighted by drugs, hookers, and other issues.

You are also not aware of the time of day this happened - which again, was a VERY unusual time to leave a baby unattended, in such an area.

It's not somewhere I enjoy walking around alone, let alone leaving a child.

We'll have to agree to disagree mate - too quick to condemn without full posession of the facts.

I'd rather risk poking my nose into something and risk being told to shove off, than walk on by, have that child harmed, and have that on my concience...

Entwood I think you need to read the post again mate cos it clearly states it was an unattended baby, and I would have done exactly the same as James.....

If leaving babies unattended is your thing, off you go, but people who leave babies unattended only learn their lesson one way, and that lesson normally begins when said baby gets taken........

Madeline McCann springs to mind straight away, if I ever see her useless parents in the street I would spit in their faces........

A good, rational, and well thought out response.  :(

Unfortunately comments like that, and the panic inducing paranoia of the rest of your post is partly the reason why society is breaking down. Lets all be scared of everything, never speak to anyone else, and live a life of fear and misery ... just the sort of ground the idiots at the BNP sew their seeds on.

It used to be a common sight ... babies in prams left in gardens, outside shops,...  in the days when people comunicated with their neighbours .. you spoke to them, listened to them, walked with them. They would discipline your kids, and you theirs, everyone knew right from wrong.

Now we are all supposed to be so clever, but we don't comunicate and we live in fear ... mostly irrational fear at that. If a neighbour tells your kids off .. it is he that is wrong .. how dare he speak to YOUR kids he must be a paedophile ... but he might just have stopped them getting hurt ........

but of course .. such a logical, sensible thought won't sell another newspaper... will it ?

In theory, I do actually agree with Nige's sentiments.

I personally came from a background and an area where it would unlikely to cause any problems.

You SHOULD be able to leave your kids in the garden, so on so forth and not worry about anything untoward happeneing,

But unfortunately, in some situations, (certain problem areas, times of day, age of baby) this just isn't doable...

I have 'believed' many times to have witnessed 'drug deals', with appropiate action being taken when possible, with some proved correct, but until the people involved are approached, evidence obtained, then you cannot be certain that it is actually a drug deal going down.

James you rightly made the point that you shouldn't condemn until the facts are known in my thread 'what is wrong with this woman...', so why make a statement about a "drug deal", one assumes involving at least two people, if you didn't, more than understandably I should add, obtain evidence and obtain police support?
You really don't know exactly what went down.

I am not criticising James, but just making the point you seem to have changed your principles between the two threads. :D :D ;) ;)

Difference is lizzie - I saw this one with my own eyes - and in the other thread I posted in, I could only judge based on media assumption...

And having seen it at quite close range - I'm not also sure what legitimate goods change hands in such wraps  ;D

Just to add - you're right in what you say Lizzie - you can't be 100% sure unless analysis is done on the substance, so on and so forth - which, combined with why it's so common in the area, is why I didn't do much about it.

What I was really saying in my thread, is that it's becoming a growing problem here, and needs stamping out.

Problem is, they only move somewhere else  :(

Thanks James, I agree with that entirely! :y :y :y :y

Around these parts drug dealing is also a big problem as it is in many areas, with a drugs 'factory' only raided three weeks back in Ashford.  There are others, allegedly, which no doubt will be raided in due course.  The battle goes on, but the police need the public's support to obtain the intelligence required. 8-) 8-) 8-)

I bet you were iching to go out and make an arrest if circumstances had been different eh James? ;) ;)

Quite the opposite - I would dread the thought - and it would be a foolhardy thing to do, having no kit whatsoever, being alone, with nobody knowing what you were doing, and no knowledge of what they might be carrying weapon wise.

Some have a go hero's might fancy their chances, but, I'd rather just note details, call it in, and stay alive. Given the vast amount of drug deals that occur, I am not prepared to get potentially seriously hurt for the sake of preventing one - nobody will thank you when you're 6 feet under  :-X  :y
