I don't know about you, but I resent giving away a grand a year to an organisation who can't even find someone prepared to audit their accounts let alone tell me what benefits it's buying me, other than that it'd be unfortunate if the UK were "left behind", whatever that means.

Trade is one thing, and it makes sense that we have agreements throughout Europe to promote that.

Trade doesn't require a single currency and the imposition of more and more political control originating from an unelected, unaccountable bunch of cretins drawn from a pool of failed national-level politicians. >:(

Just had to get that off my chest. ;)

....once again Kevin you're on the money there - that control will eventually impinge on the freedom of each and every one of us to be able to hold the national legislature to account.

This is a very dangerous organisation which seems to be ever more present in the day to day running of this country.

An organisation over which we have no control and an organisation which does not take no for an answer, our Irish brethren will attest to that.

At the risk of sounding like a staunch supporter of the EU (which I am not) all this is just sound bites.Like the current justified railing at a few thousand pounds erroneously claimed by politicians whilst ignoring the BILLIONS being spent (open chequebook) on Trident - as a deterrent against who?! The truth is the average person can only comprehend small figures. What is a Trillion anyway!

It would be nice for someone to publish or show on TV the household accounts for the EU. Will we get it, No. Info does exist even if they cannot get the auditors to "sign it off". How can people say they don't agree with something if they don't know the facts just a few "headline grabbing bites"?

As for trotting out the fishing industry. Makes my blood boil. UK didn't support its fishing industry, Spain among others did. Some UK fishermen sold their licences to the highest bidders (Spanish). The Spanish have super effecient state of the art fish dredgers and pay good money for their beloved fish. The villains of the piece? Not the fishermen, not the Spanish but the beauracrats administering quotas and governments of yesteryear for not supporting the fishing industry.

Next you will be wanting to pull Scotland, NI and Wales out of Breat Britain! And the South out of England.

.....the question must be asked, quite reasonably in my view, why not - where is this information?  Accountability is the cornerstone of good governance and without it such governance is open to abuse, a fact readily substantiated by the dubious machinations of Brussels

BILLIONS being spent (open chequebook) on Trident

...what about the vast sums we are sending to Brussels to remain a member of this organisation - what are we getting in return?

How can people say they don't agree with something if they don't know the facts just a few "headline grabbing bites"?

......if you think that those of us who are commenting on this matter are motivated by a few 'headline grabbing bites' I can assure you that you are very much mistaken.  The questionable policies dispensed by Brussels in its various Directives are just that – questionable, and provide more than enough fodder upon which we can debate.

beauracrats administering quotas and governments of yesteryear

.....irrespective of what has gone before, varche,
Brussels has an alarming level of control over these matters and has had so for very many years.  In that respect, I feel that criticism of those very institutions you mention, can be laid fairly and very squarely at the door of Brussels.

Next you will be wanting to pull Scotland, NI and Wales out of Breat Britain! And the South out of England.

...no varche a lessening of the all pervading influence of this unaccountable and unelected monster will be sufficient to be going on with - the UK can better look after its own affairs whilst maintaining friendly relations with the remainder of Europe

If the EU is such a much vaunted thing why have switzerland and Norway not joined ? proberly because they saw what has happened to the better off members of the EU ie the UK ,Germany and Holland whilst the counterys like spain ,greece and portugal have raked billions in subsidies to bring them up to the others standards. And yes I have plenty of expeirence of seeing the the payouts at work in the lesser states ,having spent the best part of the last 20 years driving around in a truck, when i first went to spain 20 years ago some of the main A roads in the south of spain were not much better than glorified goat tracks ,now spain has some of the best infrastructure in europe ,as Varche said all paid for largely with grants from the EEC
