Some great music getting mentioned in this thread! Am listening to Planet Rock at the moment (Neil Young Rockin' in the Free World) -- I like having someone else choose the music.
I've nearly finished reading a book about music -- Bringing it All Home by Ian Clayton. He sure has eclectic tastes, from music hall through George Formby, folk, blues, rock to modern electronica.
My own tastes are much narrower -- can't do music hall and 50's stuff is too "thin" for me. Not much into "head music" apart from Steely Dan. Old school blues rock works for me (mostly).
Here's a selection:
-- George Thorogood; Move it On Over, Who Do You Love, Cocaine Blues.....
-- The Who; Won't get Fooled Again, Squeeze Box.....
-- Dr Feelgood; She Does it Right, Down to the Doctors, Milk and Alcohol.....
-- Little Feat; Old Folks Boogie, Willin'....
-- Queen; Headlong.......
-- Ian Dury; Sweet Gene Vincent, There Ain't Half been some Clever Bastards...
-- Stiff Little Fingers; Suspect Device, Alternative Ulster.......
-- ZZ Top; La Grange, Sharp Dressed Man.........
-- Hendrix, Voodoo Chile, All Along the Watchtower...
-- Wildchild; Renegade Master....
-- Shampoo; Trouble...
-- Prodigy; Breath, Firestarter....
-- Underworld; Born Slippy, Dark and Long.....
-- Leftfield; Open Up
-- The Ting Tings; That's Not My Name.........
-- Laurent Garnier; The Man With the Red Face......
-- Nightmares on Wax; Keep On.....
-- and on and on and on................................
You can't beat a good pub band -- good covers, intimacy, dancing, real ale.
Cheers
