When i was fabricating our buyer would source the cheapest steel possible. We would take delivery of profile from India, Russia & a few other places. The qaulity was SHIT & REALLY SO.
When we took a delivery of steel from British Steel as it was known then, it was a very high standard of quality. It cut smoother, welded better & was a good deal stonger too. Hence "YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR"
I buy my own tools for work & when ever i can i always buy Britool. It's qaulity stuff at a decent price. I never buy Draper or any of these Chinese, Indian tat.
You know when you have quality

Yes, that is one of the reasons, quite apart from a vast reduction in shipbuilding, motor car production and construction, why British steel production has declined form 27,006,000 tons in 1965 to just 11,700,000 tons in 2002!!

It was 16,293,000 tons in 1950 in austerity Britain, so we are even below that figure now
