Cheers Kevin
« on: 28 June 2009, 00:32:02 »

Visited Kevin W today - with the intention of having a catchup and a quick tech2 checkover on the Astra.

Well it was a sunny afternoon - and we ended up doing the cambelt kit / waterpump / aux belt too. Didn't take too long with a couple of us - although the water pump didn't want to come out, so sammy and crowie came out..  ::)

It's a good thing we looked at this too - the cambelt was at least one tooth out - maybe 2. Tippex marks everywhere, so a numpty mechanic has been there before us.

Now we've corrected it - much more pull, pokier - and idle is smoother.

Thanks for the company mate - it's always more fun spanner twirling with someone who's also interested, than on your own  :y

Good to see you and happy to have helped.

Sorry we didn't get a chance to demolish that crate of Stella but it was a bit hectic. Will have to try again on that score. Maybe a meet with no cars / tools allowed?  ;)

It went on the way it went off.....

What's the difference - it looked the same on both sides to me?

The washer is concave and hence if its on the wrong way round it does not secure the pulley correctly....resulting in a worn location key on the crank.

Not yet. We haven't got round to the rear-wheel-drive conversion yet.  ;)
