Now this news is out you will be very lucky to find a non-dated 20p piece.

When I was in the retail trade my staff in every branch would go through all the cash on hand, and look at every coin or note coming in, in the hope of finding that special 'one'.  It particularly happened when there was a big hunt for all nickel coins in the old money that contained more silver than the face value.  My ex had an uncle who was a head cashier on the London Underground, and him and his team netted hundreds of pounds by extracting the high silver coins! 8-) 8-) 8-) 8-) 8-)

If they pay out at the current offer and get them all back it will cost them £99,600.00

................and sorry Skruntie, but I question your figure.

It will actually cost the Royal Mint £10 million pounds;  200,000 coins @ £50 each = £10,000,000, but of course less just £40,000 for the face value; 200,000 coins @ 20p each = £40,000 ;) ;)

according to the link that was on the bbc this morning, itas the 1st 10,000 will be bought for £50, from a 3rd party collection company...

The London Mint office is offering the money, not the royal mint.

So the tax payer will be no worse off.
