rapid weight loss

Pal of mine has lost nearly 3 stone in just under 2 months after going on a rapid wieght loss diet,mainly consisting of onion soup,loads of fruit and veg and it allows up to 20lb of beef on day 5 and up to 3 steaks on day 6. As i could do to shift around 2 stone i was thinking of giving it a go. Anyone done one of these diets and if so what were the results?

Yes cam - don't without medical supervision.

Rapid weight loss can lead to various conditions especially where a high protein element is involved.

I think that where such means are employed, those people usually find that they put the weight back on again quite quickly.

Weight loss is about adopting a sensible gradual approach based on a nutritious diet and exercise.

There is no easy way and you should aim to adopt a regime that affords long term maintenance without your feeling that you're missing something.

I would urge you to seek proper advice before considering this.

It's a diet matey, they dont really work long term.  That's why people keep looking for new ones.

just look at what you eat, cut portion sizes, lose the bread.  Drink plenty of water, if hungry have a glass of water.

Eat carbohydrates for lunch, protien for last meal.  leave at least 3 hours after your last meal before you go to bed.

Little and often is by far the best way to keep your metabolism active.

But if you have any medical probs then speak to a GP 1st.

im thinking of giving it a bash for a week to see how it goes. my mate lost 18lb in 1st week. if i dont see any significant results then surely a week of soup and fruit aint gonna harm me? im 6ft2 and weight 18 stone and  apparantly i carry it well?!( whatever that means) :)  but could do with the belly reduced a little so im thinking why not?

Sounds like you are going for it regardsless.

If so then try this, do a week, then come off it gradually by adding healthy food back into your regular way of eating.  The weight loss is based on what you eat at the time.  Not what you live on full time.  As mentioned a diet is for a period of time and each diet may achieve various results.  Tis not necesarily the right thing for you to be on depending what your job entials (strngth and stamina etc)

All the best and be carefull.  (Rapid weight loss can come back and bite you in the arse.

IMHO: The best weight loss programme is simply to eat less and exercise more*....no 'grazing between meals, eat a proper breakfast and a 'balanced' evening meal each day.

*Daily brisk-walks or if you have a dog then take it with you whilst jogging.....or, if you can, go to the local pool/gym and burn calories for 1 hr. daily.

'Fad diets' are either not-effective or downright dangerous/unhealthy.....Weight watchers clubs are surprisingly men-friendly and offer great morale-support (which is really the key to their proven "long term" weight loss results`)

.... coupled with activity as suggested, that's the secret to long term weight control  :y :y

You are best talking to a nurse at your local GP surgery who will encourage you to do a food diary ( a must if you want to loose weight ) I would suggest doing an exercise/activity diary alongside it too.

I started this 2 months ago and as a result I cut out drinking apart from 2 pints on a sunday as a reward.  I eat a lot of fruit esp when I feel peckish as I grab an apple or clementine.  I have also started to do a little food combining where I dont mix protein and carbs, so its veg and carbs or veg and protein.  Occasionally I get a craving for something I shouldent eat and I let myself have a chocky bar (milky way or something not too bad) or a pack of crisps.  It stops you having a mass pig out session after 3 weeks of deprivation and constant cravings.  Also I have celebratory meals sometimes such as pizza or fish and chips esp after weigh-day when I have lost more weight.

I have upped the exercise but to be quite honest that is mainly anerobic exercise which is mainly for my job and has little fat loss benefit.  Low intensity exercise such as a gentle cycle or a brisk walk to work instead of the car is much more beneficial to weight loss as it keeps your heart-rate around the 60-70% mark.

So far in 2 months I have lost 10KG (22lb or 1.57 Stone) not much less than your mate who, once he reverts to a normal diet, will pile it all back on and maybe more!  This method is aimed at lifestyle change which will keep the weight off for longer if not for good.

Oh and make sure that you weigh yourself on the same day and time every week otherwise you will get disappointing variations which will demoralise you and confuse you as to how well you are doing.

Loosing that much weight in such a short time can only cause health probs for the future.
the best way to loose wieght is to eat a bit less at meals, dont eat after a certen time ie 18:00hrs
cut back well on the sweat stuff and takeaways.
I wish I could gain a few kg's, Ive tryed alsorts but nothing works. I've been 65 kg's for years now and I'm 1,78 meter tall.
