In car cctv, its the future  :y

I'm working on mine today ;) :y

I was thinking about investigating a home made one that also records when the car isn't moving (vandalism/drive-off post prang threat)

Anyone have any experience?  Otherwise I may just get one of the off-the-shelf records while you drive only models

...power consumption may be an issue as well as the recording medium used - running, as it would need to, for an extended period without the engine operating.

Should the cameras not be well concealed there may also be a problem where undue attention is given to the car due to the very fact that cameras are onboard.

coming home last night had a vectra pull out on me and suddenly stop with no indication and one brakelight!!
slammed on the anchors but clipped his back bumper knocking it off its bracket and marking the bumper,

couldnt speak english and got out the car and approached the car very violently, Luckily i think that as i was alot bigger than him this put him off,
just kept saying INSURANCE INSURANCE

ended up going to his house round the corner and his 12 year old translating for him, taking pictures etc, i said look its only a bracket i will go to vauxhall buy u another and fit it now! " no no no insurance insurance" so we swapped details,

i hit him about 15mph, his 3 year old was in the back with no seatbelt on! stnading on the back seat!!!

so my insurance company basically said as i went into the BACK of him its technically my fault!!

so im gonna loose 1-2 years no claims for a ten quid bracket!

What a jip!

Cancel it now - he is not insured and is trying to claim off you - he will have a crooked lawyer to help milk you for thousands.

Call the Police and get him arrested for the loose kid!

Would be nice if it only recorded anything that moves.  Some home CCTV uses screen detection, in that, if a pixel changes it starts to record and then stops again once static.  2 good things there in that it saves disk space and also easy to check it out the day after. :y

Good idea, but as mentionned earlier power consumption is an issue.  Cameras would need to be hidden away discretely but with the size of some of the pin hole cameras nowadays that is entirely feasable  :y

Would they consume too much power to consider a solar panel for topping up.

.......you would still need to draw power from the car battery unless you had a dedicated set-up with a specific or integrated battery.

The attachment of any obvious feature such as the solar panel also would reduce the discrete nature of the installation.

I had a similar accident to this 9 years ago.

Some daft old beesh in a knackered 1985 Sierra pulled out in front of me as I was going down the A34 near Stafford.

I was doing the limit of 50mph, which witnesses thankfully supported, and she pulled out literally 30 yards in front of me......

It was dark and raining but my lights were on.....

Smacked her right up the trumpet, hard, and wrote the Sierra off....

She ended up getting convicted of driving without due care and attention and her insurance paid up......

Best of luck with your case mate

Know it's too late to suggest it now chap, but you may want to look at something like this perhaps.
Only not from Amazon though as it's way too expensive !.  But it'll give you an idea of whats out there.

or there's this one.
