Got back into my Family Tree....
« on: 09 August 2009, 10:00:01 »

If you have not done yours yet you won't know how time consuming it is, also how much like Hercule Poirot you feel... ;D

A tip though if you have living relatives that are quiet old, start now :y because as soon as they are gone it is a struggle  :(

...sage words from the bonny boy :y

For many it may seem unimportant at the moment but invariably, when it’s too late, you'll wish you had :( :( :y :y

Its a subject which I cant generate any interest in tbh, maybe because I know what a bunch of reprobates most of my relatives are without digging any deeper. ::)
I did see first hand just how fascinated Darth is by the whole thing when he came to visit though.Mrs Albs is also very involved in researching her ancestry and they were comparing notes and giving each other advice etc, kept them both amused for ages.
I have a slightly different outlook on family matters though, when I moved to England in 79 I promised I would visit my aunt who had also recently moved to England. She is only in Southend so not very far from me,I havent got around to visiting her yet. ::)
She is the last living relative on my mothers side of the family.

You ought to give it a go Albs. Once you geet back past the reprobates you never know what you will discover -- I was certainly surprised when I did mine --- thought I was of Welsh stock, but turns out I am Cornish (well since William the B came over -- before that Norman).

On and off it has taken me three decades and I am still only scratching the surface. Problems start when you stop just looking at a list of names and start discovering how they lived -- that's when it gets interesting!

I was lucky because a lot of my ancestors are well documented ---- but it's still a lot of detective work establishing connections and tracking down bits of centuries old paperwork.

Certainly makes history come alive!

LOL -- with some of the space cadets I have encountered working from highly respected genealogical research establishments, it would be highly probable that they have a pan-galactic genealogy department !!!!
