Ebay Advice Needed
« on: 27 February 2007, 14:29:23 »

Basically I have been watching an Item it has no reserve but in the listing has a buy it now price within the text but no buy it now button.

I contacted the seller during lunch only to be told if the bid doesn't reach the buy it now figure the item will not be released, surely he cannot do this as he has no reserve on it.

I asked the seller why he hadn't put a reserve on and I was told he didn't know how to.

Where do I stand, I would have put a bid on but what issues could come about.

If I one the bid it would be cash on collection.

Any responses would be much appreciated

If you win and he doesn't ship he'll be breaking the 'ebay contract' for what thats worth, so probably just negative feedback.. best to see if you actually win and then contact him before going round there I reckon..

Couple of things...

The seller is in breach of e-bay rules by operating this way.  As he has no reserve, it costs the seller less to list.  Saves perhaps 50 pence, but hey ho....  By listing that he will not sell unless it makes £XX be would thus be defaulting on the selling procedures.  I would be tempted to report it...

If you bid and win at £1.57 or whatever, then its a contract to sell to you at that price.  If you were to go and collect and pay cash, who knows what condition it would then be in (cuts, tears etc...) or how big/angry the seller is etc and how confrontational it would all be.

Bottom line?  I would not touch it.  Not worth the grief.

Its all well and good being on the correct moral high ground with all the legalese backing, but I could not be ar*ed with the potential grief and stress.

Basically its a cash on collection purchase, as Item is to big to post.

I had a feeling the Ebay Contract would come into it. Shall do a little research as he will be breaking it

Just abit miffed how he can say he will not release the Item if the Buy it now figure is met.

No reserve item so imo it should go for the highest bid.

My thoughts at the moment are walk away

Cheers for the advice Broocie

I was gonna place a bid but thought best to query the listing 1st.

I was keen on the item but now its not worth it.

The actual Item was local and was going to be a present for my dad so kind of gutted but I'm glad i didn't bid, others will come about eventually.

Cheers all who responded

Two other people have bid on it I'm wondering if they know.

Perhaps I should report it, bidding finishes today though :-/

Stuff him/her. Report them. It's people like that that give e-bay a bad name. >:(
The seller will also be charged a sold fee at the end of the auction, regardsless of whether they hand it over or not. ;D
Good luck to them.  >:(

Jeeeeez, I've just reread that, and it would seem that I have strong feelings about the subject. :-/

I would check the feedback histories of these bidders.

Shil bidding by the seller is also quite naughty.....  ie the seller and the bidder is one and the same with different user names, just to bump the end price up.

Well I have just contacted Ebay so shall see what happens.

It may get cancelled before the time up but having had similar before someone may end up having problems getting the goods they bid on.

also sounds like fee evasion - reserves cost money and he has avoided paying this as well  :(
