CCTV issues
« on: 01 September 2009, 17:52:47 »

What are the chances of this.

Bro has 2 shops in same town. Judging by UPS stats, on same substation.

Had to go over in a rush on Sat, his CCTV tuned to channel smoke, quickly got replacement, and got that up and running.  Upon checking his other shop's CCTV (network aware 16 channel units), that had crashed.

Both connected to their respective UPSs, neither of which report any power issues that the UPS was unable to deal with.

Coincidence?

Thats my biggest worry. His business is high risk for violent robbery (his staff were threatened with sledgehammers a few months back :o - so thats where Sammy went ;D), so it HAS to work.

Might be worth doing a post-mortem to find out what the failure mode was. Seems like too much of a coincidence. :-/

Worth putting them on an on-line UPS if they're susceptible to being fried and vital perhaps?

They are connected to the same UPS as the servers on each site - APC ones. Seem to recall they are online type.  Hope so, as the OOF server sits on one as well

If they're  decent on-line UPSs it's unlikely that anything on the supply upset them, IMHO, as the output is hopefully recreated from DC during all conditions.

Doesn't mean it wasn't something external (thunderstorm?). Could just be that the power supply components are rated to run on the ragged edge. ::)

not aware of storms, but could have been a localised one (he's in Witney, around 35m from here)
