Anyone know?
« on: 08 September 2009, 19:57:50 »

Just had this e-mailed to me, does anybody 'in the know' know if its true or not?

Sorry if its already been on the forum.

Subject:

*Be warned and be careful!*

*M25 and the M11 will be equipped with Point to Point speed devices from August 1st 2009*

Once you enter the M11 for instance, you pass a camera that takes a photo of your car and
registration number and records the exact time, upon exit another camera takes a photo of
your car and registration number, and records the exact time you leave the motorway.

The Cameras are set at fixed points. With both the start time and finish time, a computer is
able to calculate the time it has taken for you to travel between the two fixed points, and
works out your average speed and how many miles you may have travelled over the national
speed limit and If you have completed the clocked journey too fast you are given a speeding
ticket.

At the present time the national speed limit for motorways is 70 M.P.H.  For every minute
that you drive over the speed limit you
will incur a fine of £30, and one point on your

licence . The fines will be issued automatically but the MOT will be allowing a variance of
10% for 3 months, which gives a top speed of 77mph until the end of October 2009

The MOT will, at a later date, add cameras at all exit points along the motorways. Remember
that, now with the new legislation, fighting speed camera fines is almost impossible. You
must prove the device is faulty and if you are not a technician working on them, you have no
chance of beating the fine.

I know of the 'average speed' ones usually in roadworks & dotted around Nottingham, but I do quite alot of motorway driving & not seen them at exits etc.

And make sure you take a picture to prove it when and if the fine comes through, also recording the start time and finish time of the dump :y ;D

sounds rubbish to me.

for example....how can they know how many minutes you were speeding for.....they cant as they dont know your speed, just your average speed.

Think it's rubbish. This would be all over the news. I often travel up the m11 and not seen them yet. Although there are the average cameras on the a14 from the m11 till it veers across country. Do they mean them?

They  calcaulate your average speed between the 2 cameras,if its over the lmit your done. They are in use all over the country afaik, quite a few in Norn Irn.They had them on the A12 roadworks for several months recently, but I went down and back up the M11 form Stansted to London about a week ago and didnt see any on there,If they were they might be asking a few questions of the police rider who passed me doing well over the ton.

Correction -  they cant get motorcycles, photo taken from the front. :)

There would be of course more than an entrance and exit camera unit - these cameras would be placed at regular points along the zone over which the average speed is to be examined.

This is to allow for devations in route, speed, road position and so on.

I'm trying to recall the distal positioning along the Tillysburn - Bangor route - seems like a camera unit every 100 to 200 mts.

This would vary I would imagine on the topography of the route, junctions and other points of devation etc.

I would expect some retrospective legislation on that one in the coming parliament A :y
