Got a puncture tonight....
« on: 10 September 2009, 21:13:25 »

And ive abandoned the Viano....
Will get it sorted tomorrow morning...

My main concern was will i be able to undo the wheelnuts....as i know tyre fitters like to do the wheel nuts up to 200psi (so no hope of undoing them by hand usually) so i checked the tightness (Mercedes kindly provide a extendable wheel nut spanner) I could undo them no probs  :y

Right, so get the spare wheel out......its slung underneath.....you have to turn a lever to drop it to the ground....its stuck fast, no amount of turning the lever is making it drop down.....so i phoned a mate who told me you need to kick the wheel at the same time as you turn the lever (to persuade it) and offered to be there in 5mins to give me a hand....so i turned the lever...he laid on his back kicking the wheel....spare wheel wouldnt budge  >:(

Now...my Viano was in Mercedes about 3/4 months ago having 'free of charge' recall work done on the spare wheel holder.....now its stuck  >:(

So my mate gave me a lift home.....

Think a phonecall to the Merc dealer in the morning might be in order  >:(

I'll tell you exactly what the answer will be.....

The securing mechanism for the spare wheel is under constant exposure to the elements sir, we can't help it if you don't regularly service said mechanism to prevent corrosion from the elements.

You may be correct.....however my argument will be....you did an 'adustment' to it on a recall notice, 3/4 months ago.....how can it get jammed in this short space of time??.....'Normal' usage of a merc only requires a visit to a dealer once a year.....are you suggesting i have to bring it back every month or so for a service!!?? ....I'll see where that gets me!  ;)

3 months of UK weather alone is more than enough to cause a nut & bolt that are constantly exposed to corrode together.
Include the crap that gets thrown up from the road every day, and visible signs of corrosion will be easily showing within a month.

Actually...think i might visit the dealer, not a phonecall....its quite suprising what happens when you get 'vocal'.....in a merc delaership  ;) ;D
