Fixed a couple of PCs
« on: 09 September 2009, 23:35:49 »

Firstly a bloatware, worm & virus ridden laptop, took off loads of stuff such as Itunes and OpenMG which the owner didn't need.

Anti virus scan took a while , I installed AVAST as he didn't have any anti virus.

Left it running better

Today, I cleaned up a  desktop and will be installing RAM in it so it can work 256MB with XP - slug.

1GB on order and that will help it a bit especially with the large documents.

A little bit of pocket money earned I think.

Ironically enough, my brother always 'pays' me for the IT stuff I do for him (do all his servers, PCs, as well as write all of his dodgy Point of Sale software).  He took me and Mrs TB to Spain this year, Cyprus last year. Bloody nice chap :D

I have to admit that I also help friends and family for nothing, but normally get some beers or a benefit in kind out of it.

At least I've managed to teach enough to the old man so he's relatively self-sufficient now.  Before he would call at all hours asking for help.  Ironically he has more computers than me!

There are an awful lot of 'IT experts', both professional and amateur/hobbist, who don't know their 'Rs from their elbows

I have allways help out freinds and family, I dont expect any thing in return, but a thankyou is allways a nice reward as you feel at least they appreciate it.

Any way, after fixing a mates PC twice and never getting any thanks, he came to me a 3rd time, I spend all night on it sorting it out.  and as per usual I got no thanks.  What a bitch when he had to phone up and ask what his new pass word was.   ::) ;D ;D

Yup...and they all came to the surface when MS invented "plug & pray".
If we went back to pre "plug & play" days, you'd wipe out a good 80% of the so called experts in 5 seconds flat.

Fortunately, a pre "plug & play" test isn't necessary....because you can easily suss the bullshitters within 30 seconds of talking to them.
