Absolutely. Getting on the housing market will give you more satisfaction than toys IME. There'll be time and money for them later anyway.

And could arguably be the best time to buy for some time to come, maybe, ish?

At a similar age i could have bought a very nice but small 2 bed flat worth 75k  for 35 k as a part ownership with the council. Same flat now is worth about 160k in total. Bought i bike instead. A decission that probably cost me 50k all in including the bike, in house price increases, in todays money. My current mortgage would be consideraly less now. With rental income even less again if i kept it.

If frugal, could buy a flat nearer to work, and still have a tidy motor toy. Going to shut up now, starting to sound like my MooMa and MooPa. Thought they where mad at the time. :-)

My house deposit fund is building up nicely. Hope to have 20k stashed by the end of the year.

You dont want to be carrying other loans in the first couple of years.

A lot of building societies are saying that prices have bottomed and creeping (slowly) back up, so in your position, this year may well be the time to buy, particularly in that slow selling period in the 3months up to xmas

Your biggest problem might well be getting a mortgage on temporary contracts with the new job.

Our contractors, when we had some, were able to find mortgages without issue earlier this year and late last year. Not sure if it was a higher rate or not though  :-/

The role is contract to perm, (although i know thats not garenteed) even at the interview they asked me if i would be interested in a perm role in 6 months time as team leader.  :)

Hence me looking at a toy now, since i can expense most things i will have very little out going, and i thought now is the time to get a big bike do a spot of touring before i get lumbered with a house.

A hell of alot of car the M5 but.... The VANOS units can pack up and cost absolutely thousands to put right! also ive seen ones that have been ragged to death blow blue smoke!

the 4.0 V8 doesnt run properly on LPG and only does like 10mpg to the gas its alot of work to properly LPG convert a V8 BMW because of the DME units it has 4x ECU's! to manage the Transmission & Engine alone

M5's on the E39 shape are getting more and more cheaper as the E60 gets cheaper as its due for replacement soon so the E39 will depreciate even more soon!

10k would find you a late facelift E38 M5 with the individual pack id invest the money  in a house instead!

Screw buying a house
buy an old m5 and any money you have left put in the tank

you have the rest of your life to pay a mortgage
wait till you have a nagging wife, a mortgage that will strangle you and a few kids and a dog  you will think back and say why didnt i buy that car now is the only time you will ever be able to afford it   :y
