parcel shelf custom made
« on: 13 September 2009, 10:50:04 »

Hi
Has anybody attempted to make a parcel shelf for an estate
I am looking to make one as the roll up standard one on my car never works properly, and it would be useful to put stuff on top as well as bellow
I am thinking of making one from timber so it would be strong but be able to fold in half when you need to use the full boot
 :)

I made one a long time ago for an astra estate, also from wood, was a bit heavy but it worked fine.
might be an idea if you use 3 / 5 mm ply.
was just a thought.

Make it from "timber" and you'll break the supports on the sides.
If you're going to build it, use MDF.

I'd also make sure it's correctly "shaped" as well, because if it isn't then the first numpty car thief that happens along will know the shelf isn't standard and will want to take a further look.

If your woodwork skills ain't that great, then visit a car audio shop and tell them you want an acoustic shelf.
That way, it will be the proper shape and finished in the right material (so it's not obvious the shelf isn't standard).
