Can`t believe what i read today!

I was trying to think up ways of stopping these youths climbing over and sitting on my wall and ripping my tree to bits. Thought about the usual methods.. Gun towers, Mines, Barbed wire, Broken glass cemented ontop of wall, etc etc, when i came upon what i thought was a perfect solution.

Anti climb or anti vandal paint. Apparently you paint the top of a wall, drainpipe or wherever someone might climb to gain access to your property. It does not dry and leaves a sticky slippery surface which is damm near impossible to get any grip. It leaves a non toxic mark which is very difficult to remove on either the trespasser or their clothing. Sorted i thought, till i read the conditions of use regarding the law!

According to the " Occupiers Liability Act 1984, Householders have a duty to care for anyone on their property, whether they are legally entitled to be there or not" and using this method means that it cannot be applied to any surface under 2 metres high and where any member of the public may come into contact with it accidently whilst using the highway. Also, warning signs of a designated size and colour must be displayed. From the street level my wall is 3 metres high, so no probs there, but i have to place signs along my wall.

. Looks like another case of the law protecting the offender with no regard for the victim.

Reading the letter of the law then... If you catch an intruder in or on your property make them a nice cuppa, perhaps offer them a biccy and make sure the bag of swag they are carrying isn`t too heavy for them to carry... Because "you have a duty to care for them"...

No wonder people think the law is an ass at times.!! Been looking at CCTV systems today and may go down that route. Far less health and safety involved i think
