I can only agree with the comments about remembering the good things not the bad, it works well and remember he is always there with you while you have the memories...

Best wishes on this sad day

Give him a good send off.Try to think of the things which would have made him smile, they will hopefully make you smile a bit too. :y

A poem I have posted several times, and I make no apologies for posting it again as I found it a comfort when my mum passed ........

Death is nothing at all
I have only slipped away into the next room
I am I and you are you
whatever we were to each other
that we still are
call me by my old familiar name
speak to me in the easy way
which you always used
put no difference in your tone
wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow
laugh as we always laughed
at the little jokes we enjoyed together
pray smile, think of me, pray for me
Let my name be ever the household word
that it always was
Let it be spoken without effort
without the trace of a shadow in it
Life means all that it ever meant
it is the same as it ever was
there is unbroken continuity
why should I be out of mind
because I am out of sight?
I am waiting for you
somewhere very near
just around the corner
All is well

As many people have posted try think of the good times. As time passes the sadness will diminish and you will draw great comfort from your fond memories of the good times with your dad.
Your in my thoughts,
Tony.

I lost my Dad a couple of years ago, such a shock but it gets easier with time. Just stay strong for those who need your support at this difficult time. Chin up mate
