Plod goes electric...
« on: 04 November 2009, 10:31:09 »

"Cops can't use flashing blue lights on their new electric car - in case it drains the battery.

The £20,000 Mitsubishi iMiev is being tried out by Thames Valley Police.

Blues-and-twos sap too much power. But the car, which goes 100 miles on a 45p charge if the lights are left off, is silent and emission free."

2 or 3 years ago where Iused to live I saw plod riding round on pushbikes at 3 am in the morning, ideal for sneaking up they would probably get thier bikes nicked the second they dismounted.

Heard a few years ago that if accidents and running costs were not reduced by South Yorkshire plod they would then introduce a different range of cars for thier fleet.

The old Skoda.   Seems they all paid attention.

What about their Scoobies and EvoXs??

They use unmarked Octavia vRSs round here, plus we live on the training route and see loads of 3.2 Vectras, Mondeo STs and the vRs used as training vehicles.

They have the lot round here.

years ago they even bought a Chevette HS and took the spoilers off, fitted chrome bumbers and painted it white to make it look like a panda car.  They totally abused it and it had to have a new engine at 12K.  They also had a lotus elite.

Todays cars are the scoobys and evos that have replaced the T5's  All good and capable cars, sadly just abused by the plod a lot of the time.  (remeber ny thread a while back on how far they could lauch a police car over a sleeping policeman - exactly)

Hence why they were threated with a skoda fleet.

As mentioned this was years ago, maybe late 80's  When skoda's were just as big a joke as the 3 wheelers.

Mind you, back in the 90s I had a blast in a modded 1988 Skoda Rapid (!) Coupe with a trick carb and filters-that was fun-very light  ;D
