They'd really struggle to get that round our town centre with the extra length on overhang, so I guess they would incorporate it in the original length??

Easy to make a trailer more aerodynamic-been a long time coming!

The overhang looks more than 2 metres to me.  I can see people driving into the back of them.

That Tear Drop's a good design for another reason.

How many times have you followed a truck that's been parked up over night in winter & the ice that's formed on top flies off at you. Bloody dangerous

I would agree in principle Opti, however I would rather battle against the waste of global resources than global warming or whatever.

Great idea but at the minute that example is totally impractical.....speaking as a Class 2 driver......

And as for global warming.....dont make me laugh......if it REALLY is such a problem why are people who should know better (politicians, members of state, etc etc) still swanning around in Jaguars, Range Rovers and Rolls Royces.....

When they change their habits, maybe the public will......!!!!

logical.. principle of fluid dynamics..when they are traveling fast with that big size they create a vacuum behind them pulling them backwards..

Because there is no global warming. Cows produce more emissions than all cars on the planet, but everyone still wants a burger!

The best tests we did in the wind tunnel utilised just the side extensions and they did reduce drag. Not sure there idea would actually create a vacuum though.

Something burbling about in the dark recesses of my mind that the max overall length for an artic is 15.5 metres, with something else about being increased to 16.6 metres if there is 2 meters of the trailer ahead of the kingpin and 12 metres to the rear??    

bet its overlength.....

edit to add - max trailer length, excluding tractive unit, is/was 12.2 metres, added into the above.  That was why the bullnose Scanias couldn't haul a full length 3 axle trailer on UK roads.  legally.....
