Got invited out of the blue for Karting couple of days ago, went tonight, great fun! Was a little dubious about the weather but it turned out to be excellent, no wind and the track was slightly damp so it made for some great power slides  8-)

Spun it twice in the practice laps figuring out the limit, but in the following 70+ laps, never spun it 

Came second out of 15 or so, got on the podium, sprayed with champers, quite a good evening in all.

Was quite surprised at the instinct reactions, got punted quite a lot so lots of correction needed in the corners, has some big sliiiiides, but cracking fun.

Was £45 in, had about 8 races, of about 9 laps or so, was amazing to see the dry line forming, staying of the wet or it would get very slippy.

My arms are aching sooooo much!

Quite impressed with the place i went too, well priced.

Ok its not a professional track, but still cracking fun. Petrol karts, small track (39 seconds was my lap record, but i here 34 is the norm for the dry) i got second fastest time.

BUT that was with a lot of people, what was also clear is 90% of them had little car control. I do in fairness, there were about 3 people who always left me for spray, but consistency won the day  8-)

Doubt i would do that well with you lot! 

As mentioned i paid £45 for 16 heats, with 6 karts in each, you end up doing around 8 heats. Then there is a semi final, and final, you get a lot of laps for the money. Much more so than professional tracks where its about £60 for 10 laps.

Sounds like you were very fortunate with the weather - thats quite an exposed track and I have been round it a couple of times in the rain - Try Dattonna in Milton Keynes if you want some good straights, thinks it was the longest track in europe until recently.  I had a twin engine pro-kart back in the day and had some great times, we were lapping 1:10's at MK, I bet your ribs and arms are feeling it today Tunnie

Ohhh yes, the drive home was painful 

Yup lucky with the weather, was spot on, the slight dampness really added to the fun  8-)

Last time I went karting I had the dubious pleasure of having to race against a family where the parents teach at the Nurburgring!

Needless to say, the son who weighed about 5 ounces won.  I think the mother came second and the father third.

Daytona at Milton Keynes is about the best I've karted at - 1.2km track

Silverstone is faster, but more open, less fun.
