  something happened in front at around 3 in the morning ,slammed brakes on skidded and smashed in to the back of a trailer doing 50 mph .

The backs tend to be harder than the front. We all see it most days, they drive up each other's arses & one day it will happen. (not saying you where tail gating, because i don't know)

  like u say i see things everyday while driving on the road ,never get to close to anyone , only been at work 2 hrs b4 this happened , ,going to be off work as i smashed my knee up looking at around 9 months off work ,  :-?  bored already

Count your blessings though.  Boredom gives you that 20/20 hindsight opportunity that few folks ever get.  You may not get another chance to do that.    

I had a similar 'moment' not that very long ago, albeit not in a crash, but it certainly changed my outlook on life thereafter.
