worth adding more weight?
« on: 08 January 2010, 11:20:15 »

Got to go to work on Saturday, 150 mile round trip to London. I've already pre-pared the car, in the boot along with shovel, blankets, food, water ect, i have a bag of grit. It was 25kg but i'd say more like 10kg's now, box of brake discs that was in the garage, and its got a full tank of petrol.

Was wondering if its worth putting in my large 3ton jack too? Must weight a good 30-40kg's, its more for weight over the drive axel, than actual use to jack anything up

Too noisy, every time we pass a BMW or Merc he would be shouting at it, just hope don't see any Sony Trucks  ::)

It would be worse than talking the dogs in the car  ;D

M40 northbound from Banbury is clear this morning at 7am (2 lanes only each way - outside lane unusable), guessing similar southbound.

Wed night - last time I went on A43, 1 lane clear-ish each way - bit dicey in places. Guess thats cleared.

Biggest issues I've had is getting up and down the slopes in Brackley - gave up with Halse Road (the flattest), as too many selfish idiots on the road, plus I struggled to turn into high street.

Admittedly, I've been using FWD car - too cold to fix the MV6!!

never bothered with all that personally, we have had about a foot of snow here , ime once you've dug your way out of your own road there is no great drama tbh.

But depends how hilly your area is and how much snow you get at the weekend.

I've dropped tyre preessure to 30 and be prepared to drop psi further if you get stuck ,dig it out then pump up again at the nearest garage.

I find its uncrushed snow that big tyres struggle with, once on compacted snow its just steady as she goes.

Not sure what all the cars parked at ATS are all about, guessing they cannot get up that small hill.

Leaving my road towards Radstone road is a bad idea, its buggered all around there, not enough cars to clear it, but enough to churn it all up.

Halse road is about the clearest, will use that to get to the high-street then A43 i rekon.

Put the jack in there anyway to aid with traction, biggest problem i have is just getting out of my road i think.

Take a tyre pump as well in case you find it beneficial to lower the tyre pressures.

i would have to say differently to that... unfortuantely for me i live at the top a hill >_<
last night i cudnt get my car up the second bit of the hill, had to call my old man to come down and lend a hand... also got 2 kids who were out sledding to sit in the back... and ive got the 17" MV6 (235/45/zr17 tyres)

I think the trick is not to stop. When the snow first fell, I had to tackle a hill. There were several FWD cars stuck there, hazard flashers on , front wheels spinning, going no where, but I had momentum, kept going and made it. However yesterday I made the mistake of stopping part way up a hill to check the GPS. I was unable to get moving again, and eventually managed to do a U turn and slide back down.

Normal tyres, ( mine are Nexen) haven't got any cross wise tread to dig into snow and push you on.
