Just wondering is it worth getting a set of snow chains ? http://www.snowchains.co.uk/main/special_offers_cars.htm

Just in case this global cooling brings more snow. ;D

Wondered about chains, not sure if those snow tyre socks would be any better?

Won't bother getting them now, every bugger will wants them. Plan to get some in a few months when they might be selling some off ready for next year

Got to go to work on Saturday, 150 mile round trip to London. I've already pre-pared the car, in the boot along with shovel, blankets, food, water ect, i have a bag of grit. It was 25kg but i'd say more like 10kg's now, box of brake discs that was in the garage, and its got a full tank of petrol.

Was wondering if its worth putting in my large 3ton jack too? Must weight a good 30-40kg's, its more for weight over the drive axel, than actual use to jack anything up
M40 northbound from Banbury is clear this morning at 7am (2 lanes only each way - outside lane unusable), guessing similar southbound.

Wed night - last time I went on A43, 1 lane clear-ish each way - bit dicey in places. Guess thats cleared.

Biggest issues I've had is getting up and down the slopes in Brackley - gave up with Halse Road (the flattest), as too many selfish idiots on the road, plus I struggled to turn into high street.

Admittedly, I've been using FWD car - too cold to fix the MV6!!

Not sure what all the cars parked at ATS are all about, guessing they cannot get up that small hill.

Leaving my road towards Radstone road is a bad idea, its buggered all around there, not enough cars to clear it, but enough to churn it all up.

Halse road is about the clearest, will use that to get to the high-street then A43 i rekon.

Put the jack in there anyway to aid with traction, biggest problem i have is just getting out of my road i think.
ATS - bet they are for people who work in units down below ATS (the old train track), thats a fair slope down there.

My road is now littered with cars abondonned at bottom end - nobody can get up that little bump where road goes from black to red. Me included  :-[

Fortunately, I'm close enough, and my drive was cleared, that I slapped a rope and a pole together, and towed the Rover back on drive with the MV6.  She's walking to Tescos instead!

40l of antifreeze, and an old bag on the bonnet didn't improve traction.  The road has gone really funny in the last few hours, not sure what/why.  The top layer has turned fluffy snow again, even to an extent on the compacted stuff, and the ice underneath has gone slippery as hell.

not had any post in days, no point ordering anything online. Found a bag of grit in the garage, my drive is fairly clear and so is the little ramp.

Surely some shovels and grit would clear that bump?

Our post is doing very well  :y :y :y :y :y Got a delivery yesterday and today, they are really good here. Mind you the snow isn't quite as bad as down south.

Really hard to shovel it, as below the snow is about 3cm of solid, hard ice.  Would need to do a fair bit beyond the bump as well, else FWD cars would lose traction dragging back wheels up it. And remember, the whole thing is on an incline.

It was OK before cars started getting left at bottom, as you could attack the corner, maintain momentum to get up.  Not really safely possible currently
