3.9 V8 EFI.. beautiful engine...

It's strictly not mine anymore... a mate bought it from me for spares or repairs, or to off-road in... I think he's just going to trailor it around and use it off road.. the strange thing is, it looks SOOO tidy!!!

The even stranger thing is, it went in for MOT a month before this test was done.... and he fixed all the bits that came from that ticket... so goodness knows where this list has come from!

As far as the wheel bearings go, that's bullcrap.. they are fine... the garage he took it to, are just used to testing brand new cars and don't know what to look for on these old beasts....

Taking the list at face value as regards the rust, I hope your offroading pal is long enough of tooth to realise that if he takes some yomps at a bit of speed with a bumpy landing, the suspension bits may well pop through the alloy body or be left behins in a shower of rusty stoor (thats dust, to those from Englandshire..   )

Or the gas tank may come adrift and clobber the occupants!

Really that wants to just be stripped down for parts. Starting with the engine to Mark as he will be very interested in a 3.9 efi version of it!  

With that amount of rust i would not want to be offroading it, way way too risky!

I'm tentatively looking for a Range Rover at the moment.

Nice list, I think I'll print that off and take it with me if I go to view any!!

My main recommendations when looking at a Range rover.....

1) Always check the chassis memebers adn inner wings etc.....they are quite thin steel......and rot....
2) If a V8, stick your finegr into the oil filelr and feel for 'black death', they tend to be full of it!
3) If auto, check the box carefuly.....Range Rovers can not be reliably taken off road as the auto box throws in the towel...
4) Remember, they have more role than Paris Hilton....

Is there any other type? When you say 'Black death', I assume you mean sludge yes?

I assume you mean 'roll'? Yeah, I'm not expecting handling akin to the MV6!!   (It'd be cool to get a hold of an overfinch wouldn't it!! Like that's gonna happen for the budget I have in mind!!)

Yes...thick black hard sludge.......the V8 realy needs 3K oil changes but, they never get it....as a result you get bad cam wear, loose timing chains and I have even known there to be sludge the shape of the rocker cover in the top end when you strip them down!
