ADSL - bloomin' heck
« on: 17 February 2010, 17:50:43 »

I have an ADSL line in the office at work.  A normal, bog standard 'up to 8Mb' ADSL1 service.

Not many lines better than that :o

Mine's the same. I do actually get "up to 8mb/s" if I SSH into it and download some stuff while everyone's at work. Otherwise it's about 2Mb/s.  ;D

My Zen line, I get the full download/upload speeds expected from the sync speed, 24x7 - as you well know, as you have access to my router stats ::)

Just grabbed a screen shot of mine.

Dunno what the rest of the numbers mean, but are they good or bad?

I thought that the maximum you could actually get was only about 7.2mb/s despite the fact it's advertised as up to 8mb/s.  I also thought I'd read that here on OOF. :)

Not, of course, that it matters much to me - I live about 5km from the exchange, so on a really good day I may get about 5.2mb/s.  Right now, it's 4288mb/s. :(

Correct.

Which is why I believe this router (OOFers will know, a particular favourite of mine (not!)) is talking BS.  Put the original router back in (we were testing if it was upgraded to ADSL2), and sync'd at 7.2

What's wrong with the router?  It's clearly a Netgear model, because the picture shows the same modem stats format as I get from my DG834G.  Mine works fine and has done since I got it about 3 years ago.
