Nice looking Classic Granada
« on: 15 February 2010, 18:05:05 »

Spotting a nice looking Classic Ford Granada MK1 (1974) on Piston heads, shame that the old engine has been replaced with a 4pot pinto  :-? .

Thought a 3L Essex may have been the order for the day ?

As I recall, the original V4 was a 2 litre petrol that appeared in the Classic Capri (Capri Classic??) then the Tranny van before dieing a death.  Probably other Ye Olde Forde models before that as well...   :)

Think your right, and if I recall correctly I think when they offered the V6 option, it was in fact a 2.5 Essex V6, before being taken to 3L in later models...... Ah cars as they were, simple to use, simple to work on, and better in my view, think cars have gone way too complex now.  >:(

And the Essex lump ended up as a 3.0 with the 2.9 being the Cologne one....

Correct on the Cortina etc....   ;)

Pretty sure the old Corsair had the 1700 v4. Cologne engine started as 2.8 and later was 2.9 iirc.
whatever engine they hed in them, the engines were sh1te and the cars were horrible old rotboxes imo. :)

Correct, IIRC no Cortinas used the V engine

And to cause even more confusion,

Early seventies Capris in Germany were actually available as V6's in Carb form of 2.3, and there was the injection specials, which if my memory is correct was available as a Cologne 2.6 Inj to start off with !!.

Yes there was a mk4 2.3, I had a couple. It was the only European Cortina to have a v6. (Apart from the savage mk2)
The v4 1700 was only fitted to Corsairs and early Transits and I think some early mk4zephyrs. later increased to 2 litre and then also fitted to mk1 capri 2000 gt's, zephyrs, and consuls. I think the Cologne engine started as a 2ltr v6 in the taunus.

Quite literally....it was very popular on the hearse scene as it's very smooth at low revs.
