Having A Water Meter Fitted
« on: 25 February 2010, 11:22:34 »

I received my water bill yesterday & i'd like to know how they can justify £264.76 for the year >:( >:( >:( >:(
I did the online calculation to see if a water meter would save me some dosh & it seems i'd be saving around £50.00 a year (woopy do) better than nowt i suppose. This is an estimate so it could be less or more.
Anyway i have an installation booked for the 3rd of March which is free & if i decide that it's not for me, i can change my mind within twelve months & go back to a un-metered supply :y :y :y

Just some info if you too are thinking about it ;)

I wish our charge were that low. Estimated £487.26 this year and we are on a meter. I would love to come off the meter but rented house so don't know if we can! :( :(

Ive heard a few people talk about having water meters lately, and it seems to be a bit hit and miss!... some it works out alot cheaper, others its alot dearer  :-/

Im £350 for water/sewage per year... personally i think itd go up if i were on a meter!

I believe water meters are becoming compulsory so they get installed when a property changes hands if not requested anyway.

Generally, if you have several people in the house then it pays to have estimated but remember that they can retrospectively alter estimated bills (up to 6 years later).  Assessed usage is different and cannot be back-tracked.

I have no problem with meters except that they refuse to read them if the dustman has put the wheelie bin on them (or anything else for that matter!)

They still assume that any water they supply goes down the drain, so charge for carrying it away even if you spray it over the fence! ;)

Mine arrived the other day. Nearly £800  :o  :o  :o  :o and there's only generally two of us in the house. It was suggested in the papers the other day that those NOT on a meter were being unfairly charged ..... all part of their plan to get us all on a meter, then really hike the water charges  ::)

You can have a water meter fitted and if you don't like it get it removed up to a year later ;)

I don't think they will remove it.  They might give you the option to revert to estimated/assessed usage unless you've been forced into a new contract in which case it will be meter only.

My rates were £365 for the last place and the same here.

They were £200 a year when I had my 1st water meter fitted, usage ended up with me paying £11/12 per month.  I eventually ended up paying £7 a month.

Having now moved, I had a meter fitted straaight away and allthough the 1st reading was high as the meter was fitted whilst the builders were still here, I agreed to pay a D/Debit of £14 per month but expect that to reduce next year.

Would never have a property now without a water meter.  Nut I say that as a single person.  If I had a family with kids then thats a different story.
