The acid test is how much interest the dealer has managed to get.
I have a 2004 '54' E Class on ebay, 31,000 miles, full leather AMG wheels...I have had three phone calls from fellow traders asking what my 'best trade price is' so that in itself is a good sign. I did ask for a number to phone them back on to test out if they were really traders and asked them about their trade plates etc. I am confident that the vehicle will sell for what I want for it, but...after a certain time I would want to get rid of a vehicle asap.
So it depends on whether the dealer has had much interest, viewings and whether he wants to keep it around. Every single vehicle I have sold, the first person who had actually made a proper appointment to view the vehicle bought it. So ask this guy how many viewings he's had, if he says not many or loads you can probe him further.
Never make an offer over the phone, I don't take people seriously who do that...unless I've met them before, if they want a vehicle they will go and look at it, and test drive...I much prefer people who spend an hour looking round a car and ask as many questions as they can than just phone up and make an offer, they can't possibly make an offer without looking at it. So I'd say Di, go and look at it and make an offer when you're there
