Its gone now!

My merc....

Dunno if its  :( or  :)

Its been a good friend......used as obviously a Taxi.....before then Ive used it as a builders truck...(when i did up a house for 8 months)....it didnt even complain when i stuck 30 boxes of ceramic floor tiles in the back of it  ::)

Its only let me down once in 4 1/2 years of owning it....when the alternator pulley sheared off and took the belt with it and a diesel fuel line.

Tho on the upside.....apart from alternator.....its not had any engine work done...or suspension....or exhaust....or anything (apart from steering bushes being changed a year ago) So.....summat must go wrong soon i wouldave thought  :-/

All its had is usual servicing bits.....oil/filter/pads and one set of discs.

I sold it tonight for £2.5k.....i paid £15k for it 4 1/2 years ago with i think 20k on its clock.....so 150k miles later...it doesnt sound bad appreciation to me....

Sold it to a guy who came all the way from Southampton......i also had call from a guy in London.....plus i always new Scotland was a foriegn country....coz i even had a call from a guy in Edinburgh about it....his call came up 'International' on my caller display  ;D

not sure if Merc build quality is the same it once was....  :-/

I think 2001-2003 ish was a bad time for quality with them, its better now but i don't think the latest ones will be built as well as your last...

How old a merc were u thinking?

Agree, merc quality did take a dive for a coulple of years.....but that was mainly due to merc outsourcing the electronics bits....it was these bits that caused probs....now merc have brought the electronics back into 'house' so quality has gone back up again.

If i did get another merc C class it would be probably about 2-2.5 years old....prolly pay about the same as i did the old one......im not as mad as one driver i know....hes just bought himself an 07 plate E270 CDI.....i dont know how much he paid for it.....but i would say you've gotta be looking at nearly £40k for one of those! and hes using it for taxiing!  :-X

How much of the purchase price can you write off against your tax bill if you're using it for work TD?

So this driver can write off 10K in the first year? Sounds good to me :o

Probably.....but....it would have lost that anyway if not more  :-/
And you've just spent that kinda money on a car.....and you've got kids climbing about in the back on the leather seats.....plus even adults that dont notice the difference between the merc and a 406 and dont treat it any different.....sorry but it would do my head in.....spending that kinda money and letting it get abused!

if passengers don't care, get yourself an '04 plate plod estate, then LPG it...  ;)

Windy windows at the back, keep things simple and pin them to the back of the seat with the 3.0  ;D

Seriously though that makes it a 2005 merc? Quick look on AT suggests 20k for diesel estate...

So should get 4 years out of that... sell again for 2.5 k ish so thats over 17k lost  :'(

Money wise a very late '04 plate Omega would be much cheaper... talking 3/4k ish.... even + proffesional lpg looking at 5k??

May cost a little more to maintain but saving a shed load of cash!
