As Tom says, MIGWeb only sends emails out to people who have registered on MIGWeb and have opted to "receive emails from admin".  We have never actively seeked out email addresses to randomly email, we have over 50,000 registered users, so plenty of people to email already.

The amount of times I've tried to register on a forum only to find I'm already registered is amazing. I takes seconds to register, then only a few days to forget all about it.
If you don't want to receive emails from MIGWeb, please ensure you login and deselect "Receive emails from admin" in your user control panel.

If you do not remember your password, please go to this page:
http://www.migweb.co.uk/forums/login.php?do=lostpw

You username will have been in the email you received from MIGWeb.

Many thanks

Mike

Been there done that... ::) ::) ::) I blame the Scotts... :D :D :D

So are you saying that in the two years I have "apparently" been a registered user, MIGWeb has only sent out three emails, and they were all in the last few days ???  :o

As for the "password reminder" facility, I tried that but the e-mail address at which I received the MIGWeb mailings was not recognised as a registered address.

If this Tom is genuine, then maybe someone is messing about with both forums. Don't know how this could be done but maybe there is a possability!!!! :-/
The question I would be interested to know the answer to is why all of a sudden is Tom a member of the OOF and his first post is offering possible explainations for the e-mails ?
What alerted him to the issues we have regarding the "suspected" spam mailings ?

There are a lot of members who use several forums.  If I was a Migweb member, I'd have alerted Admin to this thread so they could deal with any issues.

I concur it is all very odd.

It was a member here who informed us.

The reason for the sudden emails is that I usually only send to active users (i.e. people who have been to the site in the last few months).  I'm guessing Tom Opted to email everyone.  We don't typically send many emails like this anyway, but are taking a proactive approach for this season.

The password reminder probably isn't working because the wrong address is being used.  Are you sure you don't have other addresses which redirect to your account?  We 100% do have your correct email address, otherwise you would never have got the emails from us in the first place!

You seem intent on blaming MIG for these emails, when in reality, you registered with us and didn't opt out of emails from admin.

If you PM me you email address or username on MIG, I'll make sure you don't get any more emails from us.  Can't say fairer than that.

Mike, as I have previously advised, I have no idea what they are.
One of the e-mails I received used my username on a Harley forum and the other two had just a general greeting.
I used the e-mail address at which I received the MIGWeb e-mails, but it isn't recognised as a registered address, and yes I did check that I hadn't mis-typed it.

Don't mis-understand me, I have no problem with MIGWeb or any other forum.  I'm only on the OOF as I get all the answers I need to any technical issues I may have and it's a good community atmosphere in the "general chat" area. Others on here are on several car forums, that's fine.

Tom and Mike from Migweb have suggested that people recieving unwanted emails from Migweb (whether you signed up yourself, or another smartarse has signed up on your behalf) should PM them for either removal from their database, or further explanation.

I guess that draws a line under things?
