As title.

Found a couple of pics of a ships engine I worked on, but its on flickr.

Tried to lift the image to put on my photobucket account but failed.  Advice, anyone?

Ship was the Baron Pentland.   Harland & Wolff B & W six cylinder 6K7 4 EF oil engine, 11,600 bhp 15 knots.

Straight 6 and twin turbo's.  Use the stairs/companionway for size comparison.  Thats the exhaust rocker arms you see in the photo, with the one central exhaust valve.  Scavenge port 2 stroke marine diesel - big bits for little hands....

You could of course simply ask the person whose photograph it is if you can have a copy or indeed use it.

Stealing images is theft. Simple.

I'm not precious about any of my photographs however the last web site that used my images without my consent settled out of court.

I  agree with you in principle, but rather than making a veiled threat, why don't you PM Hotel21 & offer him the use of your photograph?  :-?

There is no threat intented. My issue is that appears to be fair game amonst the posters here to take images from flickr.

So long as its not for commercial gain I'm happy for people to use my images, as I'm sure you'd be happy to let someone drive your car.

My post indicates though that its best to ask first.

After all the post is titled "Robbing images from Flickr"

As I said, I agree with you. But, your wording gave the impression of an implied  threat whether meant or not. As for your impression of the members on here, I can only say that they are a microcosm of society at large, with the added bonus that each & every one of them will go out of their way to help each other to the best of their individual means. Your implication that Theft is theft is theft, doesn't hold water in this case IMHO.

My thread title is, in hindsight, somewhat badly named....

My request for the benefit of the good folks on here was, by what means could I transfer an image of a ships engine that I sailed/worked upon (courtesy of one Mr Grey, once upon a time based at Buchannan Street - 041 2482333) so that they could take concept of the sheer size, rather than try to explain.

If it has caused offence then, be assured, I will remove and delete without a moments hesitation, bearing in mind that once a picture is posted on the interweb, is it not liable to such (good natured) hijacking??

I look forward to your response and direction....

I'd like to use a photo I found on Flickr. How do I do that?

Our members share an incredible amount of amazing work on Flickr. We don't act as matchmakers and if you’d like to use a photo elsewhere, you’ll need to contact them directly to both secure permission to use the photo and also assure yourself that they have all the necessary rights to grant you permission to use that photo.



When you contact a photographer, it's best to include as much info as possible about the photo, yourself, and how you want to use the photo.

I have no intention of posting further, being argumentative,  or causing conflict but the reason for my post is to highlight the above.

Again I've no wish to highlight copyright laws, but put simply it is theft.

The simple way of using the photo is to copy the link as per the 1st post that then links it to the original image in flickr.

I have no problem with you using this image, my concern as I stated was that it appeared to be fair game to "lift" a Flickr image.
