TV Card Recommnedatin - Any Thoughts
« on: 12 January 2010, 23:12:37 »

A while back TB posted on wanting some Blackgold TV cards.

Seems they aint going to be any for the forseeable future.  So any recomdations as that was potentially a cracking card.  As I fancied one of them as well.  :-/

They look quite good. I  was a fan of the Nebula DVB-T cards, as you could record several programs on the same multiplex with each card, but they went bankrupt. :'( :'( :'(

Shame,  tried a Haupauge card as an alternative, and it and the software are not a patch on the nebula offering.

Doesnt allow an external source (Video etc) to be added to trasfer old camera footage to Hard dish though.

The blackgolds also suffered awful driver issues from what I could make out (never managed to source one).

Most of the bundled software is pretty poor/buggy/featureless.  Not an issue for me, as I use MCE as everyone knows.

Personally, my 2 'proper' media centres:
Main one: 1 x Hauppauge Nova DT 500, 1 x Hauppauge HVR2200
Secondary one: 1 x Hauupauge Nova-T

My main desktop uses a Freecom USB jobby, again run via MCE.

The DT500 is a shit card - 2 x usb tuners, connected via a usb hub, all on a PCI card. When it works, its great, but Windows (re)enumeration when it comes out of standby means it doesn't always. Avoid IMHO.

HVR2200 - PCIe dual hybrids (2 x hybrid DVB/Analogue) - good card. May well get another to replace shitty DT500

Nova-T - PCI, does what it says on tin. No more, no less. Only single tuner.

Freecom stick - again, does what it claims. Needs better aerial than that supplied. Drivers not easy to find.

Note, I only use freeview.

I have a bunch of dual tv cards I am looking to offload.  I'll have a look when I get home at the weekend but as far as I can remember one is dual analogue, one is dual digital and one is 1xdigital 1xanalogue.

My polite reply there, I feel you get what you pay for.

But would (personaly) have a PC based card and therefore less clutter in my case.

(and yes I have got a USB TV setup for my lappy - (no comment))

I have a NOVA-T. Does the job nicely. Binned the software that came with it and just use it with MythTV though.

You try capturing more than 30 minutes of proper video (that's 720x576 @ 25fps) with ANY usb or pci capture device and see what happens  ;)

TB - Intrested to hear about that as I have just upgraded to W7 and put my old Nova T 500 in (Dual DVBT tuner). Its working just fine but havn't used in anger yet and noticed the multiple USB hubs when it installed.
Are you using the HVR-2200 with MCE? if so, are you happy with it via MCE?
