Bloody potholes.....again!
« on: 18 March 2010, 09:41:40 »

For the second time in a few weeks I've had wheel and tyre damage caused by bloody craters in the road! >:( First time it damaged the wheel and caused tyre seal to be broken resulting in a flat. Had to get the wheel staightened and tyre re-sealed and check for steering/suspension damage but was OK. Second time last weekend, same wheel damaged and blew the tyre. Had to have wheel staightened again, new tyre and wheel alignment check. Bloody councils should be shot!! It's all very well saying put a claim in to the local council but even if you are lucky enough to find out which council and department to contact, they require photographic evidence and measurements - how the hell are you supposed to do that in the middle of a busy main road without risking life and limb?!! :-?

I agree with that!!
My missus had her suspension wrecked by an unavoidable giant pothole last year, a motorcycle rider would have been thrown off, it was over 18" across!!
contacted the council and reported it, asked to send photographic evidence, witnesses, and measurements.
Went back that evening to photograph, and it had been filled in!!!
Good, you say, but the man that "processed" the claim said it would be rejected as there was "insufficient evidence".
It cost £126 to put the car right.

Don't get me started!!!

get photos of the pothole if you can, seem to remember a program detailing getting compensation off the council, if you take photos of it, put rulers / objects in it to give impression of size, and send them the bill!

I think it was due to some EU regulation that they had to compensate you!  :o

The roads have been bodged for years. Around here, when they get a pot hole a bloke comes around with a shovel full of tarmac and fills it in and stamps it down, job done. The bad winter has exposed the bodges and I seem to spend more time looking at the roads trying to dodge the massive craters than I do watching where i'm going. >:(

Precisely Pete, that's another thing that makes driving so dangerous at the moment. What makes it even worse is if the potholes are full of water and you have no chance of knowing there's one there!

Block the road, i am sure if you mentioned to people why you had done, they would ask for copies of the photo too!
