Driving in France is so much more pleasant than over here, purely because the traffic is much lighter and the roads are much better than ours these days. - IMHO.

Camp sites are generally good IMHO. If you're looking for chains of decent camp sites I can recommend Les Castells.

We stay at this one when we go to Le Mans and it's idyllic http://www.camping-castels.co.uk/camping-le-chateau-de-chanteloup-id253-id_camping9.html

We always went straight to the south coast where we believed you had the best chance of good weather. We as a family loved it, and so did the Mig, getting a fair chance to stretch its legs on the motorways! We always drove the whole way and went different routes, times, etc. The motorways are mainly toll, but not too expensive, and well worth it if you're going far as there is never too much traffic (just like UK!!??). Also the services are fantastic. Don't forget about a wee trip to Disney as well if you're passing. I haven't been now in two years but if there is anything I can help with, please let me know.
Good luck!

We went with Keycamps last year for a week in Normandy.

Very reasonably priced, at £250 for the caravan for a week inc Dover-Calais ferry

Stayed at Cote De Nacre in Saint Aubin Sur Mer

Spent the whole week immersed in beautiful scenery, D Day history and fabulous French food and drink

Loved every minute of it, and if the Mrs hadnt insisted we go to her parents in Lodz, Poland this year we would be back at that same site again in Normandy

Highly, highly recommended.

Normandy/Brittany are both great places .. but the weather is a tad more "UK" like and variable - mind you .. the Vendee can be crap if there's a storm  in the Bay of Biscay .. the further south you go the better the weather really ... Southern Vendee / Northern Bordeaux are a nice compromise on travel/weather

Really depends on how far you wish to drive. From Dover to Montpellier is a good days drive, and coming from NI, Stranraer to Dover is another good day. The trick is in the planning, overnight stops, etc, but thats half the fun. If you do go south a week won't be enough though.

Oh, yes, and the baker who delivers every morning - well, her pain au chocolat is to die for.

Owner is a total petrol head too, which makes it fun during Le Mans.

Take the car to the south of France most years (going again this summer). If you decide to go to the Cote d'Azur and need any info let me know. Best/cheapest ferry crossing is Norfolfk Line (this year £49 return for mig and 4 people) - this may not be best route if you are going to the west coast.

ps I suppose that it all depends on what you want from the holiday but you can usually do it independently much cheaper than Eurockeycamp etc

We used to go with a company called French Life, but they were bought over by Canvas and became very expensive. France is lovely though, and well worth at least one trip.

Never been to Eurocamp but i've driven over to France many times. Being tight I used to drive through the night to Portsmouth and get the early ferry to Cean, as soon as you get on the ferry get the wife to leggit upstairs and book a cabin which is about £20 for a 4 berth but you have to be quick, that way you can have a good (6hour)kip, kack and shower before you head off the other side.

Unlike Britain, which is full of foreigners eh.......?!?!?

One thing you can say about the French is that they arent afraid of standing up for themselves when they feel wronged by their Government.....

Unlike Brits......
