Gordon Brown has been ordered to release information before the general election about his controversial decision to sell Britain's gold reserves.

The decision to sell the gold taken by Mr Brown when he was Chancellor is regarded as one of the Treasury's worst financial mistakes and has cost taxpayers almost £7 billion.

The Treasury must publish the information demanded within 35 calendar days by the end of April.

All those companies have provided much more for the exchequer on taxation from their profits (as PLC,s) than they could ever possibly have provided as nationalised industries. So in financial terms its a complete no brainer.whereas what Gormless did cost the country billions. Utter financial ineptitude - no other explanation really.
I must admit though that I do occasionally yearn for those simpler days when you got your Gas/Electricity/phone line etc from THE supplier and prices werent so variable etc, but it isnt realistic to run an economy in that fashion in the 21st century unfortunately.

Yes it was because the New Labour Government had learnt the lesson from Maggies Conservative government that the main task of a government is to run the country, not businesses in their own right that need business managers to run them, using private money not huge amounts of public funds, as the old privatised industries did before 1979.

That is why I for one was so angry about the current government bailing out the banks, using public funds, when the free market should have dictated what banks would live and what would die. 

Yes I am a free market Conservative, believing in the mantra of limited direct state involvement in what we do as individuals and what this countries businesses do.

Controversial I know, and not without a complication or so!  But judging by so much of the rhetoric of this site alone, let alone the general public, the vast majority are very tired of the constant government involvement in the public's lives, nanny State tactics, along with bailing out the banks.

Vote Conservative at the General Election for a better future! 8-) 8-)

Unfortunately all the arguments really do fall on deaf ears mostly.

The biggest employer, by far, in this country is "government" .... all the nationlised industries, all the civil servants, all the "local government", all council workers, all the tax collection offshoots, all the NHS, all of education - including those "being" educated, police, fire, military, all the unemployed, all the sick, and the list goes on ..  but all those whose income comes from taxation are effectively employed by HMG ...

Are they going to vote for the sack or a reduction in pay   Not a chance.

The one "clever" thing that the moron has done is to ensure that so many are dependent on "the government" that they will not vote for change.
