Started My New Job Yesterday
« on: 27 March 2010, 16:26:00 »

Well actually went for an induction in Nottingham on Thursday.

I have got a job with Enterprise car rentals as a lowly valeter/delivery driver but must say im really quite enjoying it so far.

Had to have an hour and a half driving test with a proper tester before they would 100% give me the job, but I passed that with perfect scores ::) (only the second person to do that apparantly) then reported to the office Friday morning.

Have driven quite a few cars now, mainly run of the mill stuff, but there is a Jag XF in the compound which is just crying out to be driven.

Driven a few Insignias and must say I wasnt too impressed, bit worrying seeing I ordered myself one before being made redundent.

New Mondeos are quite smart, but the best so far was this morning. 60 miles in a Passat TDi Estate with DSG gearbox, full leather etc etc. What a bloody nice motor.

Drove a Hyundai I30 yesterday and that goes into my most surprising catagory. They have really up'ed their game in the past 5-10 years.

Overall, I think im going to enjoy this job. :y :y :y And one of the perks, 50% off rental prices to employees, which equates to a highly specced Insignia for £18 a day :y :y

good news, keep us informed on all those lovely motors.

Must say i like the look of the new passat, except the gay indicators you cant see when the brakes are on. Four motion dsg perhaps? would you trust it not to break. :-/

Sounds like precisely the kind of job I'd like to do - love driving different cars, whatever they are  :y :y :y

Well, im not far off 2 weeks into my new job and im still enjoying it for the most part, in fact today was one of the better days. Started by picking up a very nice Ford Galaxy then a couple of run of the mill Corsa's and Ibiza's, then to Spalding to collect a 520d BMW, got back just in time for lunch.

After lunch my boss asked me and another driver to take the BM to the local Merc dealer and pick up an S320d then deliver them both to Lincoln, god lifes tough!!! I got the S-Class to drive. Very very nice motor but if I had £70,000 to spend not sure they'd be top of my list.

Got to Lincoln and swapped them for a clit and Toyota Auris :o :o :o :D. It really doesnt hit home just how much these cars are treated as a comodity till you have to do a swap like that!

Got back just in time to go and pick up a 2.7d Range Rover Sport, a very disappointing car imho (and I have driven well over 100 miles in them now which I know isn't loads but its enough to make a considered opinion)

One thing that I hate to say but its REALLY standing out, is how im begininng to enjoy Fords. The new fiesta runs rings around a Corsa, haven't got any Focus's but not over impressed with the sameness between the new Astra and Insignia. The Mondeo is generally a nicer car than the Insignia and the Mondeos engine is in a different class. And the S Max is just about the perfect car with the 2.2 TDCi engine!

Sorry, i've always been Vauxhall, but I feel theyre letting Ford move the game on a bit too much!

Lets be honest, Ford have always had the edge over Vauxhall, after all historically Fords tend to rust slower.. :D :D :D

It does sound pretty good, and sounds stress free :y but I bet the pressure goes on sometimes and then dealing with traffic, deadlines etc, interesting though and sounds as if it is anything but boring.... :y

Vauxhalls have had that reputation ever since the Viva and it was the Viva's rust that breaked Vauxhalls up. All be it until the Vectra which set it back again, not rust, just a crap car with a crap  chassis. :y

Yep, but do not underestimate the Omega, a good solid car, crap reliability in V6 form though, evidenced by posts on this forum...... ::) ::)

Honestly never had a problem with the Omega, except for this one. I have had 6 Omegas. Also 3 Carltons and didn't have a problem with any.
I can remember Top Gear once saying if you want a cheap car with everything on it and an undeserved bad name by a Carlton/ Omega :y :y
