Quiet as a mouse...
« on: 17 April 2007, 08:59:59 »

..Well not quite, but yesterday I had the day off work and my new exhaust turned up.

2 Central Silencers, and the 3.0 Rear Silencer so I could have the twin pipes out of the back :P

After much fighting and swearing, changed it all, along with all the mounts, clamps, bolts etc - and guess what, I didn't shear one of them off!  Only problem with the cat bolts was that one of them rounded off, I solved this by smashing a 12mm socket over it with a lump hammer, came straight out after that :D

Not only is it quiet, but its now much more responsive and feels quicker - both the central silencers had completely disintegrated inside, so its easy to see why..

Also did the stat on sat / sun - I have heat in the car again - and much more solid stable temps reported on the dial...

All in all, very pleased :D

I am in the process of changing my exhaust.  I wish that my centre section bolts had come out nice and easily like yours.  Every one has sheared!  Work continues......

Unlucky there  :(

I soaked mine in plus gas, then went off to remove the back box first - then soaked them again, basically just kept doing it repeatedly for an hour - they were all still f'ing tight though, I was a bit scared..

Yep,  I used virtually a whole can of plus gas.  I even started the plus gas treatment around three days before the eventual removal started.  Like you, attacked the back box first.  I reckon that the system is original which makes it 9 years old with 100K on it!

The original systems certainly seem to last well.  Glad I am using original parts - should be there for the remainder of the car's life.

Project Elite has a nasty bosal system fitted :(

Saying that, it's nearly brand new, and not noisy... so given that it's an N reg car... I won't be changing it unless it breaks!!
