My miggy isn't too bad condition, with very little of the dreaded "tin worm", but have a couple of scabby bits in the usual places on the rear doors. Went over to the new bodyshop near me on the way home yesterday, to ask how much to "tart her up" and do those little bits neede to make it look like a rust free example. Although I have my own spraygun/compressor, etc, don't feel confident enough to match up the paint colour properly, and afraid of having a "20 shades of green" car.

Nearly fell off my feet when told £400............!!!(cough)

Apparently, to spray the rear door bottom edge, and where the window trim is (the only scabby bits I've got) needs the entire door stripping down, new window rubber at the bottom of the window where it meets the door, cos the scabby bit is on it, and the rubber will be scrap- he will also need to "blend in" the front door and rear wheelarch, the bottom sill, and will take three/four days to do.

Is he having a giraffe, or am I just being unrealistic???

Don't mind paying, just don't know anything really about spraying (only spray basic stuff like m'cycle tanks and panels, etc.) and don't want to be ripped off.

Does sound rather expensive that mate... was it just the bottom of the doors you were having done or bits across the top edge too?

Unfortunately Daz, got a scab on the top, right on the window seal, and on the bottom corner of the rear door ,

Would it be better to source a couple of doors from a breaker? may well be cheaper

Take the point, suppose it would be loads cheaper.

The door shapes should be the same on both Mini Facelift & Facelift models same as the wings too. The only difference iirc is the rubbing strip down the doors

I've just surprised myself there. Priced up your model/year on parkers and they reckon around £1400 for a good one. I do apologise.

No apology needed......some of the models in the same year are not worth tuppence!!!! (and thats in OLD money!!)

However......have seen a couple that the owners want 2k for, same year/model as mine but with less miles on it.

The cars worth has nothing to do with the fact that the company doing the work have a lot of things to pay for ...

Business taxes
Water rates
Heating
Income tax
Insurance
Electricity

Clothing
Equipment
Consumables : Paint, polish, dust cloths, rubbing materials/compounds
Advertising
Property Maintenance
Wages for staff
National Insurance
Pension payments

not least of all and make a profit as well.

It might be worth £50 or  £5000. .. still needs the same amount of work and material...

Of course ... they could do a job for 5 Bob .. then go out of business ... where would you go next time then

I'm not doubting that is was a reasonable price for the job. It's just that one is loathe to pay that sort of money for work on an older car, especially when the rust is likely to appear again at some point.

That makes it a choice based on economics ... not a "diabolical liberty"

We have a guy locally, all his work is by word of mouth, he has a huge purpose built garage/unit at the rear of his garden which in effect bothers no one on the street and he has a simple pricing system, if the panels are average with with no dents, tin rot not totally overgrown he charges £70 a panel.

never heard a bad word about his quality or workmanship.
