What a mile muncher the Omega V6 is!
« on: 12 August 2010, 09:32:03 »

I know I'm probably preaching to the converted, but have just done my mileage claim/figures for the last month.
Have used over £570 in fuel, just about 95 gallons.
Done over 3200 miles, thats approx 33 mpg over a month average!!!

C'mon fellers, 3.0 V6 estate, fully loaded up with tools, drills, occasional triple ladders and steps, mostly motorway work and long distances.

What other 11 year old car with 154k miles could do that? and not a drop of oil used either. Loves front brake pads though....................

Seeing I want a facelift estate (newer) next, can any person tell me if the 3.2 is as good, or should I look for a X reg facelift 3.0 instead???

LOVE THIS CAR.

I think you'd have to be driving miss Daisy to average 33 MPG  in a 3.2, to be honest. :-/ Possible, but your motorway cruising would have to be at the speed limit and no more. (How we all drive anyway, of course  ::))

I'm wondering if the higher compression ratio gives the 3.0 the edge on fuel consumption.

So you would advise sticking to the 3.0 then Kevin?

that makes me looking for a Xreg or older 3.0 Elite facelift estate, then.

cheers.

Incidentally Kevin....
Can you tell me the real differences between the 2.2 DTi and the 2.5 BMW engined miggy's, and would I benefit (reminding you of the weight carried and distances I cover) from buying a diesel miggy, and which one??

I reckon 3.2 may be marginally better mpg wise, but might be my 3.2 has done less than a third of mileage of my 3.0

I struggle to match your mpg in my 3.0 auto unless it's a constant 70-80mph cruise. Not done such a cruise in 3.2 yet

Interesting.. Perhaps I've got a lead right foot but also haven't run the 3.2 on Petrol for over 2 years now, so my recollection may be poor.

On a 75-80 MPH motorway cruise mine might have managed about 33 MPG but given that the sixstring's average would have included some urban driving, starting from cold, etc I'd say it wouldn't happen as a long term average. Of course, any time spent shuffling along in heavier traffic at 50-60 MPH will have brought the average up. Mine has returned 36 MPG at 60 ish.

.. oh, and on mile muncher stakes, fully agree. 300 mile round trip again on Tuesday with the Westfield on the back and it was effortless.

think 33mpg is brilliant...i have a heavy right foot and mines a 2.5 i get 31 ish at 85/90mph but then the driving i do in london takes my average down to 25mpg...which i still think is good for a car that eats miles like it does

SPTA like a war zone at the moment, lots of interesting stuff going on - and we're working 24-7.

I'll try and invite you up next time I'm down there.

Sounds like fun. :y Based on my only previous experience which was flying past (outside the danger area) in a glider. The plume of smoke was higher than I was (and I wasn't low :o). On top was a Tornado standing on its' tail with reheat. ;D

So the 3.0 might not be the "better" motor, but it seems it is the one to have...........

Holiday.  Suffolk to Cornwall and back via South Wales in 10 days.  M25 shunt, day spent getting it patched up, visits to lots of small coastal villages, including Land's End, diabolical roads, fog, rain, gave M25 a miss on way back.

1265 miles @ 26.5mpg.  Very pleased with that. :) :) :)
