What make is the folding van mate.
They have rallies on the site I use in Wareham....usually about a dozen or more turn up....but they all seem to be 'older generation' :y

Bought this in December for 10 grand....do you reckon my 2.5 Elite Estate would tow it ????????
I had it delivered to site, so do not have to tow normally

Quick google indicates the MTPLM (Maximum Total Permitted Laden Mass) of that 'van is 1915 Kgs

Parkers guides indicate the maximum braked towing weight permitted for the 2.5 elite estate is 1700 kgs

So not a legal tow I'm afraid ..  and not a safe one either .. tail wagging dog comes to mind .. :(

Thanks for that Entwood....
I never did understand the why's and wherefore's of the 'kerb weights' etc.
Lets hope I don't have to move it.....Otherwise I'll have to nip down to Bovington and see if they would loan me a tank !!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D :y

My caravan was a more or less a perfect match @ 1460kg max for the TD estate.
You could however go to 1700kg legally, to match your kerb weight of the car, but no more, and not really recommended. 85% of the kerbweight of the car is the normal weight you should be towing.
That van as said, is way over for even the experience van tuggers, don't do it, end of :-?

Mick ;)

I've no doubt that your Miggy will physically tow that van.
But Entwood's spot-on with his reply - the whole outfit could become dangerously unstable under certain conditions.
You'd also not only fall foul of the law, your insurance would be invalid too.

Great replies, chaps.
You would be suprised how many 'experienced' tuggers have told me when asked on the site, that my Omega would tow my van with no problems !!!!! >:(
I admit I had my doubts. As I said earlier, I keep the van in storage on the site, so hopefully I won't have to tow it.
Only ever towed once, and that was using my Senator to tow my first caravan to the site, which was a small 4 berth Adria. Had all updates delivered and old van taken away. :y

Being a modern 'van, with nice twin axle, your Omega will tow it no problem at all, and probably be stable at illegal speeds.  BUT, unfortunately it's a little heavy with regards to the law.  :(

The Omega might not have any problems .. but you, as the driver, might have a few...... inability to stop, inability to maintain a straight line, total loss of control in an emergency are just a few that come to mind !!!

My little Elddis is only a 2 berth, so tows at silly speeds. I would have thought a Mig would be big enough to tow any van. What's the alternative, buy a big daft 4x4 that you don't really want? I guess it pays to check first. ::)

I'm glad you have shown the problems, because others have given me duff info, and I admit, we had thought about taking the van off site and towing it elsewhere every so often. :y

So, I suppose its staying where it is.
Next step I assume is, looking for a vehicle that will tow it :(

After Towbar fitting by Mr Sethsmate, and consequent 12N and 12S wiring done yesterday, will be a proud owner of a Pikey wagon on Weds!!!

Had better talk to DLK about bringing it to Newent, I suppose.............

(Actually quite excited about it, how sad am I......)
I've only had mine a year or two. Had no interest beforehand but totally get it now & love spending time in it. Only cost £200 (worth a grand) might upgrade in a couple of years. I don't caravan as such, look at stately homes etc but for omega & classic car meets it beats tenting hands down! 8-)
