Yeah....really!  attached to a garage, and with some of the oldest stock you ever seen. Still sells the Britax lap belt kits and conversion kits to convert your static belts to tensioned ones!!!!

Also saw some "proper" stainless steel wheel covers for a car in 13", on the box says "suitable for Ford escort mk1 and 2, Vauxhall chevette and Viva, and Austin Allegro."

I love it................

It's been a while but i'm temporarily going back to my old ways & i'm gonna let a proper rant off the lead regarding towing wieghts.
Migs are pretty heavy & as we all know stable & sure footed for a rwd of thier size. Apparently an unstable 4x4 can tow a larger heavier van than a Mig because it weighs half a ton or so more. Who on earth in thier infinite wisdom arrived at this ridiculous conclusion & how exactly? Caravans are often(not always) towed by folk who have little idea how to do so & don't check tyre condition, wheel bearings etc. after months of lay up. Failiure of said tyre or wheel bearing at 50/60mph can be messy on a motorway with another two lanes of traffic or worse on a single carriageway where a passing HGV can cause a weave. Either way a Mig as the towing vehicle would spin, the 4x4 would be alot more likely to roll involving more innocent road users & your precious family occupants. The Mig would probably handle the weave without incident in the first place. Is this a VOSA bright idea, or some similar waste of taxpayers money body that have attended a course, watched a dvd & are suddenly experts & can dictate to those of us who have been towing tractors & trailers, race cars on trailers, caravans, even artics for the last 30 odd years hands on experience.
Yeah of course they know better!!!!!! >:( >:( >:(

I'm not arguing, and I'm not the worlds most experienced tower (count on fingers of one hand that I've towed a van, and towed a boat a few times), but I do know that somethings if the rig is unsuitable, a minor weave of the van can end in tears. Thats where the weight comes in I think....

AmigoMV6 ....    and breathe .........  :)  :)  :)

The rules have been around for ages and make a huge amount of sense.

Your artic prime mover was designed .. power, brakes, chassis .. to be able to pull a full trailer up to its designed (permitted) weight .. thats what it was built to do.

A car was not built to tow a trailer specifically .. but has a certain ability to do so. The manufacturers therefore LIMIT the maximum allowable weight that can be towed, hopefully knowing the chassis, brakes, steering etc etc effects and limits.

That figure is published on the VIN plate and cannot, legally, be exceeded.

Some cars do NOT have a towing weight specified, and do not have the facility to fit a tow bar .... it is actualy illegal to modify and tow with such a car ... why ?? because the maker does not think it safe !!!

It matters not your level of towing experience or ability ... the laws of physics cannot be overcome by wishful thinking .. if the trailer ('van) weighs more than the car then in an emergency it WILL take control .. and you the driver will lose control .....

This happens to artics as well .. and they were designed to tow .. we've all seen the result of a jack-knived artic .. not a pretty sight ... it just gets worse with an overweight 'van to car setup.

Heavier 4x4's are very unstable & much more likely to roll in any RTA towing or otherwise. (abb. version)!!! :y
