One of my pet hates (allthough not a street sign or street advertising) is the moving message boards on buses, think they are one of the biggest distraction to motorists.  Plus I also thought it was illegal to use them on a moving vechicle (other than emergency services) plus if they are used on the front of a vechicle  then that IIRC does break a law a red facing light bulbs are not allowed to be used.

Funny you should say that. This subject arose on the wireless a year or so ago. The point was there are that many signs everywhere you've got no chance of reading them all so you simply ignore them therefore missing the odd few that are important which kind of defeats the point.
Also, today in Dewsbury (w. yorks) I saw a banner hung over a pub/hotel railing inviting us to book now for christmas, then a bus with a scrolling message saying "You can allus tell a Yorkshireman but you can't tell a Yorkshireman owt"!!!. ::)
