It was at Ramsbottom on the East Lancs Railway line that runs from Bury to Rawtenstall. Same line that Sam Tyler & co in Life on Mars had the final shoot out.  :y  :y

Maybe I'm missing something but is anyone likely to be wasting their life watching Corrie going to notice a few incorrect details?  [smiley=evil.gif]

I believe their audience statistics came back with the result that no intelligent people watch this stuff so they dropped the standard. ;D

SWMBO and I watched Revolutionary Road on DVD last night (utter rubbish IMHO) but it's set in the 1950s.  Towards the end a house had two of those 'starburst' PAR security clusters on the back - oops.  They usually pay more attention than that on period dramas.

I love it when a soap, like Corrie, has a railway scene, especially when it includes a steam engine.

However for us serious railway historians and steam train enthusiasts it is hard on us when silly errors are made by programme makers, like pre-war scenes including engines built in BR days post 1948!  We notice such things, as sad we are!! ;D ;D ;D ;D

Tonight Corrie has had a scene, featuring Black 5 44871, masquerading as Lancashire Fusiliers, with the evil character scary Mary managing to uncouple the last coach and the train departing, with that coach, until 'losing' it down the line  -----  impossible!!! ::) ::) ::) ::) ::)

No way could the train have been tampered with in that way without someone noticing, then the train would not have been able to leave the station with a carriage coupling detached, as the first jolt would have broken the vacuum pipe and the brakes would be locked on.  Even if the coach could be pulled along for so long with its steam heating and vacuum pipes attached, when the vacuum pipe eventually broke the whole train would come to a halt!

Finally the train was obviously meant to be on a steam preservation line where intermediate signal boxes would probably manned, and the signalman would have noted, when checking for the red tail light, that it was a 'broken train'.

Why can't tv and film directors get these things right? ::) ::) ::)

Who else notices such mistakes when their speciality is wrongly portrayed in tv and film productions? :D :D :D :D ;)

A 1995 Rover 620 in Ashes to Ashes......and a Morris Marina in the sixties crap they call Heartbeat. :y

.......and I should add......Corrie is total crap....which should have been binned years ago....in about 1960 ::) ::)

And would also be spotted on modern setups thanks to the axle counters and the presence of another object on a distant track circuit

The only thing I would say is that a 'portable immersion heater' will not stop when the train brake is vented unless the driver spots the vac go and cuts the power.

At least a bit of 'anoraking' over corrie keeps the "I spotted the rear left hand brake light of an omega for a tenth of a second in an old episode of cracker at 3am this morning" brigade quiet. ::)

can anyone shed any light on how many steam trains are still being used? for whatever reason at all?

i was delivering in lostock, bolton, on an estate that overlooks lostock station on saturday just gone, and at around 9am a steam train passed down the line, which unfortunately splits after lostock to hear to either wigan or preston

i couldnt see the actual train due to the houses but saw the steam :D
