Nickbat Jnr. is off with chicken pox...as are 5 others from his school.

Oddly, though, he had chicken pox at pre-school, and I heard today that a parent of another child also says that this is second bout.

So it seems that one can get chicken pox twice.

Yes you certainly can get it twice Nick, as I did as a child and one of my children did

Most folk only get it once, as the body then builds an "immunity" to that infection, which sits ready and waiting to prevent re-infection.

However, some folks don't maintain that immunity, or a slightly different "strain" of the infection is not "recognised" by the body .. and you catch it again.

SWTSMBO had German Measles as a child, the test when she was pregnant with our son showed she was NOT immune .. so avoid all contact, have the jab after the birth. Preganant with daughter, test again shows no immunity. Avoid all contact, jab after the birth....  she just does not build immunity to GM.

Every human body is different, and reacts to infection (or jabs) in a slightly different way, despite the newspapers insisting that "one jab suits all" ... statisically 95% of the differences are miniscule, but they still exist.

.......and it's not only children who can catch it.....I came down with it when I was twenty one.... :-/

If you get chickenpox, you can also get shingles later on.  The two are caused by the same virus, herpes varicella zoster, which can lie dormant for many years. 

So after you get chicken pox, it may be advisable to get vaccinated again in the hope of preventing a later attack of shingles. 

Shingles is very, very, very painful, and the pain can last for 6 months after the rash goes.  I had it when I was about 25 and I sincerely hope I never have it again

I remember I read somewhere this virus have mutation ability meaning that we can also have this at any age and several times..

Amen to that Jereboam! My Mother in Law had a bad attack of it when her Husband died 5 years ago & still gets regular flare-ups
