I've had it for a week and....
« on: 03 May 2007, 20:37:32 »

....Today I managed to reverse my pride and joy into my garage door.  Just finished rewiring the towbar electrics, and had replaced the nearside rear light which had a crack in it.  Reversed it on to our driveway, the front wheels held for a moment on the kerb so I increased the throttle at just the wrong time.  Before I had a chance to hit the breake, it rolled back, into the garage door, frame and just caught the wall.

I spent the next 3 hours rebuilding my garage door - it's seriously knackered.  Nearly burst into tears when I saw the damage.  Its scraped and dented the nearside quarter panel, damaged the bumper and killed the new light that was fitted.

Is anyone good with bodywork?

Has anyone had a worse day than me?

To top it all off, when I wrenched the garage door off so I could start fixing it, one if the blooody springs from the door pinged off and crashed on to my ankle, so now that is throbbing and ballooned up.  Roll on the weekend.

I'm absolutely gutted TB.  Still, look at the glass half full I guess.

Does anyone know how much it'd roughly cost to fully replace the nearside quarter?

I've managed to stroke out the worst of the dent apart from at the start of the rear of the arch.  It just looks awful at the mo.  I'd just taxed it at the weekend too!

Sorry to say, but I think replacing the rear wings comes under the 'insurance write off' banner for prefacelifts :(

Aha.... That was actually remarkable. I bought another 2.5TD estate, N-reg this time with exavctly the same colour! That was another gearbox change one. No, the damaged one was genuinly fixed by me. Had a number of other issues like running on chip fat that needed sorting tpoo, but a great car once done.

indeed here it is:

I'll take some pics this morning.  Not going to go into work today, my ankle is still painful this morning and I think I'd best go see the doc just in case.

May have surced a bumper with the help of Chris (ClarCE) but still in need of a near side outer boot light if anyone has one going cheap?
