New style logbook
« on: 08 October 2010, 18:12:13 »

Anyone seen these? Red & pick on the front it say:s This Document Is Not Proof of Ownership, It shows who is responsible for registering and taxing the vehicle. Also says on the front Buyer Beware this vehicle could be stolen, makes the vehicle look dodgy to me. They changed from 15th of August apparently.

As far as I am aware the log book has never been proof of ownership.

Well yes Del as it means even if your car is stolen, along with the V5, it still remains your property as far as the DVLA records show.  The thieves waving the V5 at police officers will mean nought 8-) 8-) 8-) ;)

Doesnt matter, your recirpt for a car is proof of ownership the log book is proof of responsibiliry, hence the name of "Keeper" get the bill for the car tax.

If you read the old one I am sure it will explain, and the seller was responsible for sending off the log book for the new seller unless sold to a dealer and then it didnt add another new keeper.

Hmm there was a rumour going round that the government had to bring out new ones because where cars were being removed fr lack of tax, they were being challenged in court as it didnt belong to them? so now the logbook just says who is responsible for taxing and insuring it?
like i say just a rumour but there is no smoke without fire!!

unlucky alf

It makes you wonder why they changed the wording from "owner" to "keeper" on the old document, it was almost saying we are just looking after the car for the DVLA. :-/, if it says owner then there is no arguement as to who is responsible for the legal stuff.

As far as I recall, it was always the case that the V5 (and 'log book' as previously) said that the named person was the registered keeper not owner.

Perhaps the new colour/layout/wording is just to emphasise that.
